Does anyone here actually use the "Ignore List?"

I’ve used it twice - once for a poster who really, really irritated me, and the second time for a poster who posts repetitively.

Some posters have commented that you can’t truly ignore someone if other people are quoting that person in a thread. Others have commented that how can you be sure you won’t miss the rare gem from a person on the ignore list.

Actually, the two issues cancel each other out. If other posters actually find something the ignored person said to be worth quoting, that’s fine, and I’ll read the quoted portion.

So what I’m saying, is all you other Dopers are my secondary filter for the ignored persons on my list. Thanks for your help!

The Ignore list is like the Elvish Rings in LOTR - only effective if used discreetly. :stuck_out_tongue:

I did use it once, but I found the “Ignored Poster has posted - click here to view” message more annoying than just scrolling past the posts with that username. Also, the fact that you still get to see responses and quotes make the function rather useless (not that I know how to solve that). I took that person (don’t even remember with any certainty who it was) off the ignore list pretty quickly, and now whenever I see a username whose posts I have learned to ignore, I just scroll past.

I really hunted it during Trotsky’s premature ejaculation of a troll’s life. I couldn’t find it though.

Yes, I use it, and I find it makes the board more pleasant and less stressful. I have a low tolerance for repetitive asshats.
