Does anyone here have MTV2?

I remember when it came out it was a premium channel, all videos, 24/7, no commercials. Lately they’ve been promoting it like nobody’s business. They tell you to ask your cable company for it, so I wonder: does that mean it’s free, and some companies just don’t provide it, or that you have to call so they can let you have it…for a fee? Also, if it’s free, does that mean it has as many commercials as MTV?
I was in Germany last summer, and their music channels played almost nonstop videos (with commercials). I was in heaven, and I’d like to recreate it here with MTV2. And I won’t even get into how sad it is that MTV, that’s Music Television, has to have second channel for people who actually want the music.
So, does anyone here have it? How is it? How’s their playlist?

Actually, it is pretty good. Their only “shows” revolve around letting viewers pick the lineup (“Control Freak” and “Box Block”), sometimes featuring a band in concert, or an hour of a specific genre. I can’t say that I’ve noticed the amount of commercials. I’m pretty happy with it, though. The only thing about the Box Block - if you go to vote online, they only have about 15-20 videos that you can pick from. Those videos get really old really fast.

mtv2 is part of my regular cable. it probably depends where you live.

it has commercials but it doesnt seem as many as regular mtv.

i am pretty pleased with the playlist. they play current mainstream, older mainstream, along with more obscure stuff.

also at times they may devote a whole hour to only rock or only rap.
sometimes they also just devote it to a singular artist, more when their album is coming out.
they show taped concerts and stuff too. for example, they did a depeche mode show taped in germany. it was good:)

try to get it if you can

Have it, don’t watch it.

On Time-Warner in Orlando, I’ve got …

  • MTV
  • MTV2
  • VH1
  • VH1 Classic; and
  • MuchMusic

All I need is MTV Europe, Asia and Espanol; and that channel that shows all Arab music videos (Hatt baby!), and the lineup would be complete.

Of the five I get, I watch VH1 Classic the most. The programming is along the lines of MTV circa 1985 – lots of yuppie rock, hair rock, new wave and funk, with a little bit of “zoom in and out really fast and blend a lava lamp over all of it” videos from the early 1970s. Hardly any commercials, either.

… and as an afterthought about music video channels in Europe, I can only imagine what Beavis and Butthead in Polish would sound like.

There’s also a channel I get here in Oregon called MTVX, which is another MTV offspring that plays only rock videos, no rap (errr…hip-hop) or trash pop, etc. When I’ve watched it, they’ve had a very diverse playlist and if I remember correctly, no commercials. BTW, MTV2 runs a shitload of those annoying Miss Cleo ads, but it’s a godsend compared to eMpTV.

MTV2 is what MTV used to be. They actually play…music (gasp). Good music at that. They still show live videos from concerts like MTV used to. No crummy shows. No attempts at sporting events. No shows at all. Just videos. They still have the old school style VJs. I really like MTV2.

I’ve got MTV, VH1, MTV2, and MuchMusic. MTV2 is the only one that I watch. To be fair, I’ve never really watched MuchMusic.

Yesterday they played a whole HOUR of Depeche Mode videos. Ahhh, the excruciating pleasure!

My cable company included MTV2 as a part of our regular cable service a few years back (if I’m remembering correctly). Back then, the channel played nothing but groups that I had never heard of and that basically just sucked.

Then the channel got pulled off the air and turned into that you want it, call your cable company to get it kind of channel.

Now they’ve put in back into my regular line up. It’s a great channel, much better than when we first had it. The only downside is that they took The Box off the air in order to free up a channel for MTV2. The Box is basically a TV jukebox, playing videos for $1.99 per phone-in request.

I miss M2. It was one of the only channels I watched in college (the others being the WB, The Sundance Channel, Comedy Central and Channel 7) it was wonderful, all music, no shows, all the newest new stuff that wouldn’t hit the radio for months… My cable company doesn’t offer it or The Sundance channel, so I haven’t seen either for two years. I e-mailed them about it, they said they consider subscribers suggestions, but won’t be adding any for the rest of the year <sigh>

Think that’s amazing? About two weeks ago, they played the entire Weezer collection, includint that “El Sancho” crap from the Pinkerton album no one bought.

I too get M2 and I really like it, I’ve noticed they seems to play more rock videos than any other genre. The only thing that I don’t like about the channel is the news guy, they have news just like regular mtv, 10 to the hour but this stupid bald tattooed moron does it, he’s such a dumbass.

I have MTV, MTV 2, MTV X, MTV (Latino), VH1, VH1 Classic, VH1 Soul, VH1 Country. I love them all. There’s always some video on that I enjoy seeing (yes, even on VH1 Country). There are very few commercials on MTV 2 and I enjoy their playlist.

ONE cable provider in Chicago has MTV2, and it used to be mine. I moved in April…only six blocks, and my cable provider changed, leaving me without MTV2.

2 weeks after that, MTV2 had a half hour special about the new Rammstein album.

The fates conspire against me.

I actually much preferred the box to MTV2, because I had the sick joy of interrupting all of the stupid hip hop crap by requesting Rammstein or Tool or Coal Chamber or something that would really stop the dance party.

An hour of Depeche Mode videos drool…David Gahan…my first celebrity obsession. Did they show Halo? That’s my favorite video of theirs.
