Does anyone here know anyone personally who has been diagnosed, or has been yourself?

A personal friend of mine – not VERY close, but a friend – died a few days ago. Covid was involved, but her health was extremely bad already (legs amputated due to blod clots and diabetes…) Still, it looks like it was Covid that ended her life. She was in a long-term-care nursing home, which, alas, are areas of high risk.

No other connections that I know of.

My 95 year old mother who I haven’t been allowed to see since March, has been Dx in the memory care facility where she lives. Asymptomatic for now, moved to a full PEP unit with 8 other residents.

My aunt is in the ICU with COVID-19. Not on a ventilator at this time. She is 78, has smoked since she was 12, has lung cancer and COPD, so the prognosis is not good. We think she got it from one of her recent hospital visits for falls or a recent stint in rehab for the same. I’m worried about her husband, my 85 year old uncle, who is not only at high risk for having been exposed to her, but is also pretty much in denial about her condition.

One of my students and her entire family had COVID-19. A couple of weeks ago, the mom told me that everyone had tested positive in late March. I had last seen the student–in person, for an hour-long tutoring session in my small office with recirculated air–on March 15.

I’m sorry to hear that they had it, but it would have been nice for them to tell me in, say, late March, instead of waiting until July.

My aunt has passed away. They ended up trying the CPAP machine, but never got to the ventilator stage.

C3 and dummygladhands71 and others dealing with this – very sorry that you and your families are going through this.

I’m sorry for your loss, @C3.

Hugs to you. :frowning:

My condolences, C3. What a terrible thing to happen. How’s your uncle?

One of my high school classmates has been sick (now going on Day 21) with a high fever that comes and goes, along with body aches, sweats, chills, and extreme fatigue. He tried to get tested, but it took CVS over 3 weeks to get him the results back. The test was negative, but it sure seems from his symptoms like it was a false negative. He is now trying to get tested again, preferably without going to the ER, but that seems to be the only place will take him given that he is symptomatic.

One of the carers in my MILs care home has tested positive (asymptomatic), which is obviously your world’s worse nightmare - the home went into lockdown early and have been exemplary up to this point. The manager is gutted.

BUT, they’ve retested everyone and all is clear. Phew.

Thanks, I appreciate it. He’s doing as okay as you would expect. They were married over 60 years and he’s now rattling around in his house by himself. But he’s managing. There will be no funeral, so not sure when I’ll see him again.

The house next door and the house on the other side are owned by the same family. Most, if not all, of the people in both households had it. My interaction with them has always been a friendly hi from across the yard if we happen to be outside at the same time.
My sister-in-law was just diagnosed. Her husband, my brother, hasn’t shown signs yet and will be tested.

A friend and his whole family got it. They just shut themselves in the house for a miserable week, and got over it. They just held a Zoom call last night with a half-dozen friends to say “Hi, we’re back! Did you notice we weren’t around?”

When asked what it was like, they said “Exactly as advertised. Every single symptom. Kids had it easier, we’re in our forties and felt horrible. Extrapolating, I don’t wish this on any 70 year olds.”

A friend and my nephew both contracted. The nephew got through without the issue. The friend is still in the middle of it.

My mother’s housekeeper and one of her children has it, but her husband and the other child don’t

My friend who had it in May was recovering well, but he has apparently been suffering a relapse over the past week or so; he’s exhausted again, and sometimes short of breath. He’s going in for a chest x-ray today.

Meanwhile, one of my colleagues had it a few weeks ago. She lives in Houston, and her husband is a doctor, who’s serving his residency in one of the Houston-area hospitals; she very likely got it from him. She’s only 25 or so, and she was very sick for a few days, but recovered pretty quickly.

And, my niece had to go in for a test yesterday. She works as a server at a restaurant, which had just reopened a few weeks ago. One of the cooks at the place came down with it, and they shut down the restaurant, and mandated tests for all of the employees.

My uncle got his test results back…positive. He is asymptomatic, but obviously extremely worried. :frowning:

Just updating –

The old man recovered. Amazing. Really amazing. I didn’t expect that. We even pre-paid all his funeral expenses.

An 86-year old diabetic with a history of COPD, no doubt as a result of smoking for thirty years, recovered. Kind of a suprise. A very welcome suprise, but still a surprise.

Here’s hoping he stays asymptomatic.
