Does anyone here know anyone personally who has been diagnosed, or has been yourself?

I now have two exes who got breakthrough cases, both likely at work. One is a professor at a state university in a state that forbids public educational institutions from requiring masks, let alone vaccines, or even allowing professors (even ones with significant medical issues) from hinting that masks would be appreciated in their classrooms. Luckily, both seem to be doing OK (one didn’t know he was infected until he had a pre-op physical for rotator cuff surgery).

The niece of my stepmother who died of COVID in April 2020 was just released from the ICU with a breakthrough case and sent home on oxygen. Delta is no joke.

I just found our our former nanny’s boyfriend just died of COVID. He wasn’t vaccinated but wasn’t that old either (late 20s or early 30s). The nanny was also diagnosed with COVID (also not vaccinated) but is recovering. Doubly sucks for her as they were expecting a baby in a few months.

A friend in Thailand thinks she has Covid; got a test yesterday and will hear results tomorrow or the next day and she’s isolating until then. She says if she’s positive she’ll have to go to a quarantine hotel for two weeks, a regular tourist hotel where they put two Thai strangers per room and bring them food or whatever else they need until their time has expired.

I lost count of how many people I know who’ve had COVID–13?15? I’ve known 4 who died, including my brother-in-law.

This past week I learned of two friends who got COVID. One had gotten COVID early in the pandemic and was ill and weak for almost 2 months. She got vaccinated and wears a mask religiously but got the Delta variant. She’s not as sick as she was with original COVID, but she’s pretty ticked off, as the state has a vaccination rate under 40% and lots of anti-maskers.

Then there’s another friend (same state) who just got discharged after 10 days in the hospital with COVID. I was not surprised. She’s always been into homeopathy and believes whatever BS she sees on social media, so I’m sure she wasn’t vaccinated.

My Thai friend has covid, and was placed in quarantine since Sunday 10/3. The authorities in Chon Buri have apparently commandeered local resorts, which makes sense since with the restrictions there are no tourists. She’s in one, basically in solitary in a room (or at least hasn’t gotten a roommate yet) 5 days now. They bring food and meds but otherwise she’s stuck in there 24/7 until probably October 17. Only internet is her phone; there’s a TV for broadcast Thai channels. She’s been quite sick with fever and sleeps quite a lot.

Well, frick. I posted before about two friends (one vaccinated, one not) with COVID. Now another friend, also vaccinated, has a breakthrough case. She knows it’d be a lot worse if she hadn’t been vaccinated, but she’s still miserable. So many people where all three friends live are all about free-dumb and “Nobody can tell ME what to do!” The increasing number of people with COVID does nothing to enlighten them.

Grr.

Coworker has been vaccinated and now has the covid. Now that vaccination is required, either de jure or de rigeur, I wonder how long it will be before boosters are required.

Well, they already are required in Israel.

Let’s see, my grandson got it, right before he was suppose to be vaccinated. At work, I know 2 people who got it. 1 was not too bad. The other to were not hospitalized, but were down for weeks.

Just got word of breakthrough infections on my step-brother and his oldest child. Completely unrelated as they are currently in different states :expressionless:. Both are ill, but getting better and grateful they were vaccinated in the first place.

And I am also grateful that I’m going to qualify for a booster by late next week when I hit my six month mark.

A member of our church choir has recently suffered a breakthrough infection, and she was in ICU the last time I heard.

Up until recently I didn’t know anyone who’d died of Covid-19. I can’t say that anymore.

The grandson of our very nice, former next-door neighbor died of respiratory complications of Covid in the hospital. He was 21.

Absolutely tragic.

That’s very sad.

My aunt and uncle had breakthrough infections. Fortunately mild cases.

My spouse and I both have breakthrough infections. Both Pfizer vaccinated back in late April. (So 6 months for booster hadn’t passed yet.)

Our 8-year-old twins have/had it as well.

It started with one kid, and my spouse started getting sick 2 days later. Spouse and Kid 1 isolated in a separate part of the house. I wore an N95 mask and washed hands every time I went downstairs. Spouse was initially not very sick, then got worse.

On the day Kid 1 came out of quarantine and went to school, I started sneezing. Took a home test – positive.

Kid 2 got tested and was positive as well, but hasn’t had any symptoms except occasionally a slightly elevated temperature.

V-Safe happened to contact me today for a check-in, so I will report my breakthrough infection, if the site doesn’t keep hanging. It may be my connection, as we have a power outage at the moment.

This has been hell. Pure hell. So bad that the pneumonia isn’t even the worst part. The unrelenting, blinding headache and pressure every day all day is what concerned me enough to send me to the hospital. I thought maybe stroke at the time. It’s fading now tonight enough for me be able to focus enough to scroll about the internet and I’ve had this since October 26th. 2x I’ve gone to the ER. They don’t really do much other than give inhalers and prednisone. My son has an upper respiratory infection and they prescribed dextramathorphan, which I’ve read repeatedly is not something you want to take with covid. He didn’t even have a cough so it was an odd choice as far as prescriptions go! It wasn’t covered by our insurance and cost 44 dollars so I didn’t get it anyway. The inhalers weren’t covered either. You’d think state insurance would cover something so basic for such a serious condition. Luckily they didn’t cost that much. what I don’t get is why neither of our ER doctors allowed for generics. The pharmacy told me I could call the hospital if I wanted to change that but said “honestly they rarely get back to you”. How comforting. At least I had the money for it but how many people have gone without because they didn’t have the money and couldn’t get the meds they need because the ER refused to prescribe generics or prescribed something not covered but couldn’t be reached for a substitution? It’s scary. I’m glad I had money in the bank. Hell I was surprised they sent me on my way with prescriptions with covid pneumonia anyway but I guess it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. It sure seemed bad at the time. I thought I was going to die that night, to be honest. I don’t remember much from the first two weeks other than pain and more pain.

My son is doing quite a bit better now. He’s been back to (virtual) school since Monday and I can hear him giggling on mic with his friends.

My daughter hasn’t had it too bad, just mild fevers and body aches for about two weeks. She’s lost weight and she’s definitely experiencing some brain fog. Odd brain fog. And she has been a champ, tending me and her brother all along. I don’t know how we’d fared without her there.

I’m feeling well enough to get out of bed for the first time today Just really, really foggy and still achy. So achy. I had a fever every day for 2 weeks. I don’t have a scale but I can tell I’ve lost a LOT of weight. I’m sure most of it water weight but surely I couldn’t have been holding on to that much.

Keep in mind we have been vigilant about social distancing and masking up in public. Three days before the first symptoms we went out to eat for the first time since the pandemic started. We had to have gotten it at the same time I’m guessing since our symptoms all started on the same day. It’s the only place we’d been in public other than mostly empty parks in weeks. I don’t grocery shop, I do pick-ups. So it had to be this place. We were even careful then, wearing masks until we ate. But it was a kid-friendly pizza place, definitely not the best choice. We had just been so careful for so long and everyone else is going out again. I forced my son to stay in virtual all this time to keep him safe. I don’t let him do anything fun, and he just this one time asked if we could go in for pizza and I gave in. I just keep thinking if it was this bad WITH the vaccine I can’t imagine how bad it would be without it. But what keeps bothering me is the day I started experiencing symptoms I didn’t even think covid, and I took my son to an autism community Halloween party at the museum with a lot of children with special needs. I hope I didn’t get anyone sick. I wore my mask but it was hard to distance as it was very crowded and hands-on. I hate thinking my foolishness could have gotten anyone as sick as we’ve been. Or worse considering the little ones weren’t vaccinated.

Anyway god I know I’m rambling. I haven’t talked to anyone in a while. I haven’t had the energy to get on social media so I’m just purging a lot here.

Damn, that sucks Rushgeekgirl. I hope you and your children continue to feel better.

We’ve been pretty vigilant, too, about masking and social distancing. We eat out more often than you have been, though. Now I’m starting to think we need to dial even that back, with cases ticking upwards again.

I’m glad you are feeling better, finally. I hope you completely recover soon!

How old are your kids?

My brother. Fortunately it was mild with no obvious lasting effects, but he was miserable for a few days.

I thought that I might have had it at one point but I tested negative.

My girlfriend has it now. So far it’s like the flu. Her oxygen levels are fine. Her temperature hasn’t gone over 100. Here’s hoping it doesn’t get worse.

I feel like a prisoner on death row just waiting to catch it. I currently have extremely minor symptoms which may or may not be psychosomatic. My latest home test was negative.
