Had another cousin die today in NY; lost three cousins in one day. All were over 70, fat and diabetic with heart issues. No word on if it was the omicron strain or if any of them were vaccinated.
I’m sorry. That’s a lot.
We’re all negative.
I’m also starting to feel better.
Big relief.
wow, that’s rough. I’m sorry for your loss.
Good news!
My wife and I tested positive yesterday. Fully vaccinated and bousted. Average cold like symptoms.
We are both immune compromised and received antibody infusion today.
We’ve been very careful. I think this new strain is going rampant.
I hope it stays mild and you recover quickly.
Well, my son is positive. His second vaccine shot was 4 weeks ago, pretty much as quickly as he could have gotten it. I am not too worried, but this isn’t a mild cold: we are on day 2, and it’s more like flu or strep or something: he’s a sick kid.
My sister and niece now have it. Both are vaccinated (Moderna) but not boosted. They live with my mother, who is 79. (They live far away from me.) My mother is vaccinated and boosted, and so far has no symptoms.
My niece works at a pharmacy, and was the first one to have symptoms.
So far, “mild” symptoms for both of them. Which are actually pretty miserable: chills, fever, aches, fatigue, etc.
My wife had COVID a couple of months ago; she started showing symptoms like two days before she was scheduled to get her booster shot. This was a bit before Omicron was in the news, so it was likely Delta. She was able to get monoclonal antibody treatment, and recovered within about a week. It was, I suppose, “mild,” although she was pretty miserable the first couple days.
I had no symptoms, and repeatedly tested negative throughout. I had just gotten my booster about a week before my wife got sick.
I’m sorry to hear it. I hope it resolves quickly.
I am now hearing about several people who had evaded infection until the past week or two. All vaccinated and booster. However, of the recent infectees, other than the nurse (it’s amazing she lasted this long without getting infected!) none have been super careful; one is an anti-masker who thinks everything is a conspiracy to control people (I strongly suspect that he only got vaccinated because he wouldn’t be allowed to visit the grandkids otherwise), and another has been flying all over the country to her friends’ bachelorette parties over the past year.
All the same, I think the next time I go grocery shopping, I’m upping my mask game.
A co-worker of mine just tested positive, along with his wife and kids. They’re all vaxxed, the adults are boosted, and so far everyone’s asymptomatic. He hasn’t been in the office in over a week, so probably didn’t give it to any of us. There’s been an outbreak in another office within our organization, but I’m not close enough to those people to know who any of them are. I just get the emails from HR about how many positive tests there have been in which offices. I’d get a direct email if any of them reported having been in contact with me, but I already know I haven’t seen any of them in person in weeks, maybe months.
Thank you. He’s better today. I am sick, though: can’t get a test, but I assume I have COVID. It’s not terrible, but it’s bad-cold level. I am triple vaxxed.
I have done this, and was glad I did; maskholes abounded at the grocery store today. I may go back to doing pick-up service from them for a while. I wish I didn’t have to go over there at all, but the co-op I get most of my groceries from (and which is fantastic at both their pick-up service and at following and enforcing the county’s Covid guidelines in the store) doesn’t carry everything I need, so I gotta do it occasionally.
I’m glad he’s better, and glad you’re 3x vaxxed.
At this point I’m surprised the answer is “everyone I know.” At this point at work it’s pretty much everyone I know. Some had it before. The rest have it within the last few weeks. My daughter just found out pretty much everyone at work has it now she’s just waiting to get it. Not one Omicron case I know has been severe. I am worried about my daughter since she has asthma. We will be monitoring her closely.
I wonder if it’s just how bad my state is currently.
One of my five bosses has been out for a week and a half. He isn’t saying anything, nor is my workplace. It’s highly unusual for him to take a week off, even around the holidays - unprecedented, even.
He’s an obsessively secretive person about everything. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has it. I have to look into my workplace’s rules about disclosing if any of our employees have tested positive.
Just found out that we dodged a bullet. An old friend is in town from Taiwan with his wife and daughter to visit his dad, who lives not far from us. They invited us over for New Year’s Eve, but we declined - everyone but the daughter was fully vaccinated (kids her age aren’t eligible in Taiwan yet, but they got her a first shot here last week). We haven’t been in enclosed spaces with unmasked people in many months, even immediate family, and weren’t about to start now. Instead, we invited him over for a backyard bonfire hangout last Sunday.
As it turns out, his stepmom wasn’t feeling great on Christmas, and now almost everyone in the household has tested positive. Good thing we stayed out in the backyard. I’m feeling vindicated about my neurosis.
My sister and her kids and partner all came down with it before Christmas, not long before they were eligible to get a booster jab. No terrible symptoms, just feeling very rough.
On the upside, if they get the booster in the next few weeks too, that should leave my sister, a teacher, better able to fend off any infection when school returns.
Other than that, almost everyone else I know are either taking it seriously or have been working from home, so haven’t had a chance to pick it up.
