Does anyone here remember Baywatch Nights?

I vaguely remember seeing promos for it in the 1990s and even watching a few episodes.
Did Hasselhof play the same character in it that he did in “regular” Baywatch, or was it supposed to be a different character? If it was the same character, did any of the storylines merge with those from the other Baywatch?
I also seem to remember that this had some sort of sci-fi or supernatural theme to it. Was that the case?

I’d known vaguely of it, but it wasn’t until the Cracked article that I found out Angie Harmon (rrrrOOOWWWwwrrrrr) had been in it. I probably would have watched, just for her.

Yes, Hasselhof was Mitch from Baywatch - he’d opened up a PI firm as a night job, or something silly like that. No storyline merging as I recall, but some other character crossovers - his cop buddy also went onto ‘Nights’, and I think that Donna whatsername started as the office girl on ‘Nights’ and then went onto Baywatch as the new lifeguard.

I loved Baywatch Nights. It was cheesy goodness.

It started as a detective show, when Hasselhoff discovered an operation dumping drugs at sea. Later, he appeared on Conan and said “When the ratings are low, the format must go.” and explained that BN was now a monster of the week show. Conan replied “In six months, it’ll be a cooking show.”

I never watched the original BN and so missed the episode where the transition occurred. As a fan of bad monster movies, I watched every episode of the second version.

Surprisingly good considering the fact that it was a spinoff of another cheesy show.

So, was Baywatch Nights part of the official Baywatch canon, or did it exist in a separate reality. Were any of the events on the show referenced in the original series or vice versa.
