Whatever happened to that show? For those who might not remember, It was a sitcom about this guy who modified and restored old muscle cars with his dad. I don’t really get the chance to watch TV too often, but whenever I had the chance I really did enjoy that show. All of a sudden it just up and disappeared. Anyone here know what happened?
Titus was a GREAT show, I still have a few episodes caught on VHS. From an antenna. Barely watchable, but I’ll never tape over 'em.
Were I to make a guess, it’s that after the second season was taped, space aliens abducted everybody involved in the show, and the few remaining FOX executives with taste.
This also explains the disappearance of Firefly, and other “Good” shows… they were contracted before the abductions.
Seriously, tho, I’ve seen Christopher Titus on TV since then, the tonight show or something, so I’m guessing that they just cancelled the show and he moved on to do his standup. Or something.
Damn you FOX!

You should probably send email to a mod to move this to Cafe Society.
Barely watchable was right, but not in relation to the reception.
That’s a little harsh, it was OK, but nothing special.
In typical FOX fashion, they moved it around the schedule too much, and kept holding it back for specials and repeats of other shows.
Then they killed it.
Bastards.
Since this is about a television show, I’ll move this thread to Cafe Society.

Actually, I believe it got very poor ratings because everyone thought it was based on Titus Andronicus.
well, it was the first thing I thought of…
Poor ratings, of course.
It was a great show. I remember one episode where Titus was sweating out an AIDS test – and it was funny! Just brilliant. Stacy Keach of Titus’s father was one of the great comic creations (and, from what I’ve read, Titus didn’t exaggerate all that much).
Hy. Larious. One of the best shows ever.
And, any show with Scut Farkus in it has to be good.
I saw Christopher Titus’ stand-up before his show came out on Fox. It was brilliantly funny, Robin Williams Live at the Met funny! He stand up was mostly based upon growing up, his father and a psycho girlfriend. We all went back the next night and saw it again.
When Titus on Fox came out, I could see how they were trying to convert his stand-up act into a television show. I think it got off to a rough start, in terms of translating it to t.v. but it improved greatly as it went along. Plus, his girlfriend on the show was hot, hot, hot!
My favorite moment was during one of his closing bits in the empty room when he started frantically talking about “It’s the fault of…” and listed several minorities. With each one he had a frantic hand gesture, as if pointing to a group over here and one over there and slowly the gesture morphed into the Sig Heil (sp?) gesture whereupon he paused, hand/arm fully extended and that made a great dramatic point - especially for a comedy show.
Titus is back out on tour doing stand-up. He was here about a year ago I guess but unfortunately I missed it. I’m not sure if he is doing the same stand-up routine or not but if you get a chance to see him do not miss it!

Yep. It was an excellent and innovative sitcom with the black and white monologues and a totally unlikeable (and thus likeable) father character well acted by Stacey Keach. And apparently, it was all pretty much a true look into Christopher Titus’ life as well. Yikes.
I’m trying to recall if they tried to soften the hard edges before Fox plugged the plug, or if they stayed true to the idea of the show up to the end. I do definitely recall that Fox shunted it into a time slot of death before killing it, blaming low ratings.
Just another member of the jilted ‘Fans of Titus’ group here. I have to disagree with the poster who suggested that it was ‘nothing special’. Frankly I think the main reason it was canned was that it was a little too special. In that it was willing to take on a number of very uncomfortable topics and treat them as comedy fodder. Death, mental illness, sexuality…they all got skewered in very funny ways that managed not to be bent on simply being obnoxious. The interplay between Titus the commentator and the actual narrative threads during the program was if not innovative, handly very very well. I miss the show…I curse dimwitted, gutless execs.
Caught Chris Titus on ‘Just for Laughs’ late last year and his stand up remains strong. With amusing observations about ‘ordinary’ life making great contrasts to current politics and social mores. “I don’t want my daughter to grow up knowing her colours because of the terrorist alert rainbow!”
An associate of mines started that the show was canned because the producers were accused of using the show to promote gun laws and the right to bear arms. He had no eveidence to cite this, so I simply took it as his opinion…(and only an opinoin). Maybe if I get lucky, someone will start selling copies on eBay or somewhere.
Remember it? Hell, it’s on every freakin’ night here! The FOX satellite channel runs a few years behind the American broadcast, but all they seem to show is an endless loop of “The Practice” “Titus” “Boston Public” “Friends” “Chicago Hope” and “Ed, the Bowling Lawyer”. It may just be the contrast with the rest of the programming, but Titus is a pretty good show, IMO.
One episode that stands out is when they got the father to give up alcohol and he made their lives so miserable that they held an intervention to get him back drinking again.
Dang it, I wanted to be the one to mention that!
I loved this show when it was on, especially Dave (Titus’s younger brother).
This past christmas the menfolk were doing the traditional “Watch A Christmas Story nonstop until Mom gets tired of us talking along with the TV, shuts it off and feeds us” that has been a mainstay since the 24 hour Christmas Story marathons started. Well, during a commercial break they did some cast interviews (plugging the recently released DVD), and Zack Ward (Scut Farkus) did a little bit.
I sat up stunned. “The evil Scut Farkus grew up to be Dave Titus?!?” Now if I ever catch Titus whenever he comes on I’d probably be forced to say “He had yellow eyes, swear to god! Yellow eyes!”
Not only was the show funny as all get-out, but it had some moments that were really touching in a scary way.
Some ones I remember-
An episode where Chris starts out remembering all the literally crazy things his mom used to do… But then later in the show the flashbacks are extended to show how his dad drove her to many of these things.
The episode where Chris’ black-and-white monologue explains why he doesn’t associate with one of his old girlfriends- because she used to beat him, and that’s something a man doesn’t admit to anyone.
I particualarly remember an episde where Chris is doing some racing, and the end of the ep has him wipe out / the car blow up, and the ending is of the black-and-white ‘monologue’ room, empty, with his girlfriend’s voice calling out his name in horror in the background.
Damn thing gave me chills. And still managed to make me laugh my ass off every single episode. The show was genius, and it’ll be missed.
This show was hilarious. Too bad they never bothered to promote it, then cancelled it when it didn’t get the ratings. Typical Fux.
Christopher Titus: “Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” My dad said, “Booty - mmm mmm.””
When the show went on, Titus had to ask for releases from his parents and other people he knew so they wouldn’t sue.
His father refused to sign the release until he was given a new truck.
