Does anyone know what song this might be...possibly from Broadway show

Last fall I attended a Singles Retreat that had, as the closing entertainment, a one-woman show of songs dealing with The Single Situation. I’ve lost the program, but remember that most of the songs were from Broadway shows, and that I’d never heard any of them before.

The particular song I need to hear again was a hauntingly poignant song about finding the Man of Her Dreams after such a long time alone…how perfectly matched they were, how bright the future could be…except for he doesn’t love her.

I know this is not a lot of information to go on…obscure song from an obscure (to me) show that may or may not have been on Broadway sometime in the last 10 years…but I find myself in the situation of needing this song to help me deal with a similar situation. I haven’t fallen yet, and have always had songs that help me keep perspective, and I need to hear this song again.

I have faith that some Doper, somewhere, has heard the echo of this song and can help me find it again. Thanks.

And of course, don’t post all the lyrics.

Someone Else’s Story? from Chess?

On my Own? from Les Mis?

good evening,

friend kittenblue, could you possibley be asking of the song that starts: “at last…my love has come along. my lonely days are over, and life is like a song.”

i have heard two versions of this song. one by aretha franklin, and the latest one by joan osborne (no relation to ozzie) and featured on the soundtrack of “the other sister”

jarbabyj I know it’s not the Les Mis song…but I’ll search on the other one and see. But it might be what longhair 75 has suggested…that seems to strike a chord. But keep 'em coming, folks, while I look into these options. I truly appreciate the help.

Nope, nope & nope…checked them all out…not the one. Any other suggestions?

I know this song has been recorded by many artists over the years, but I think you might be confusing Aretha Franklin with Etta James, who recorded the most famous and often-played version of “At Last.” Do you have an Aretha Franklin version as well?

If more clues will help, the song I’m looking for was a fairly long ballad that listed a lot of reasons why this man was The One, how long she’d waited to find him, and then the heartbreaker at the very end when you discover that he does not love her.
