Does anyone know what this might be?

Have we disregarded the possibility that it is just a bunch of letters intended to spark curiosity and nothing more?

Not sure if this well help matter any…but speaking of Cooper Black you may be interested in this informative and humorous flash-documentary

Wasn’t me, that must have been one of the other guys from the other board. We had a couple persuing Swedish and other language angles.

I’m thinking this just might reamin a mystery…

I’d guess it means

Help Your Self
You F’ing piece of ____? (Garbage? Guano?)
Do It Now

It makes the most sense to me.

NOOOOOO!!!

Here’s a scary thought…

Ah Hah!

HYS is Herndon Youth Soccer

In next week’s instalment- I figure out what an Ufpog is.

I think the hys=“help yourself” and din=“do it now” ideas are definitely heading in the right direction. Someone has mentioned he actually has seen pins that say “hys” and “din.”

The more I look at the pin, the more I think the idea that “ufpog” means “u f***ing piece of garbage” makes a lot of sense. I wonder how it could be investigated/verified…

For example, did people use “u” for “you” in acronyms very much in the seventies?

-FrL-

Most of the info I got when I googled “help yourself do it now” were either home-repair or suicide/depression links. There was a book titled Help yourself… do it now!

But…would they use a “U” for “you” in the second line, and a “Y” for “your” in the first? Seems contradictory.

I keep trying to turn that “U” into “use” as in, it was a promo for some product:

Help your self:
Use Fred’s Purge Out Grease –
Do it now!

only not exactly.

Still a mystery… Anybody know a good medium?

Or:

Unite for Protection of G-something
or it could be Prevention …too many possibilities.:frowning:

Do we know in what town (and what high school) the button originated? Maybe there’s a regional connection. Also, fifteen years ago means 1988 or earlier, which may or may not be significant.

Lockfist: that Cooper Black link is great!!! Thank you.

Ok, this link is discomfiting:

Exactally what year was it? Is it possible the letters are the first letters of the first line, or some other part of a song/group that was poplar @ that time?

I Googled the text and it got zero results…so I doubt its a line from any song.

I bet its just made up randomness/some local gag.

By chance, have you considered asking the persons family (though they may not want to think about it), what about any close friends of his, or any mutual friends, or have you lost contact with most of those people over the years?

What other message board did you get this from?

This button is driving a great number of people nuts and is appearing all over the place.

Here’s the latest newspaper article on it:
