For some reason today I was thinking about stuff i did when I was younger. One thing was I used to buy a lot of buttons and stick them on my jackets and shirts. It was a silly teenage thing to do. drove my grandparents crazy for some reason. I think my favorite one back then was the one with the smiley face that wasn’t smiling. It just had straight line for a mouth and read **“Have a day”. ** Sure, its not the be all and end all of humor, but I liked it. I no longer have all of the buttons I used to, but other than various Hard Rock Cafe pins I have a button on my leather jacket that says “333…Halfway to hell”. It always takes people a few minutes to get it, and I’m surprised that many people notice it.
I once gave a button to friend that was a big musclebound guy that said **“Me not very smart, but I can lift heavy things”. ** Luckily he wasn’t pissed about it. I also knew an army captain that would button whenever he was on leave that said “I’m on leave, so LEAVE ME ALONE”. I always wanted one of those.
If you want to see a collection of interesting button sayings, go to Nancy Leibowitz’ site. She makes and sells these at conventions. I’ve got eight of these pinned to my cubicle wall right now.
‘Question Reality’
‘Reality is for people who lack imagination’
‘It’s been lovely but I have to scream now.’
‘I haven’t lost my mind. It’s backed up on a disk somewhere.’
That was my favorite one, too! I still have it…somewhere. With my Boomtown Rats pin and my other 80s memorabilia. It wasn’t memorabilia when I bought it.
