Does anyone other than Netflix revive good shows that got canceled

Shows like black mirror, arrested development, Mr show, etc have all been revived by Netflix. Do any other companies revive shows that got canceled too early?

Fox did with family Guy. Other than that I can’t think of any.

This has happened forever. I know a number of shows were cancelled by the networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) and syndicated. For example Hee Haw is an American television variety show featuring country music and humor with fictional rural “Kornfield Kounty” as a backdrop. It aired on CBS from 1969–1971 followed by a 21-year run in local syndication.

Futurama got cancelled by FOX and later aired a bunch of new episodes on Comedy Central.

Also, I believe Taxi got cancelled by one of the big three networks and picked up for a final season on another big three, can’t remember which ones.

Would you be surprised that there’s a Wikipedia list of such things? “Category:Television series revived after cancellation”

Mr Show has been revived?

I don’t think Black Mirror was cancelled. It wasn’t a regular show, it was a bunch of stories broadcast across a few chunks on Channel 4 in the Uk.

Fox brought back Family Guy after the dvds topping the charts.

Community found life on Yahoo after NBC.

I think Stargate SG-1 moved at least one channel ove its seasons.

It’s not a Netflix thing by the sounds of things.

Most the scripted shows on that list were picked up on another network the next season. That’s easy enough to do; it’s harder when a show has closed down production.

I can think of three that got the original cast together after a hiatus, though for movies instead of a series: Alien Nation (several of them), * Homicide: Life on the Street* and I’ll Fly Away (on a different network, too).

I’m waiting for the re-re-revival of Unforgettable. Canceled by CBS. Then brought back by CBS. Then canceled by CBS. Then brought back by A&E. Then canceled by A&E.

It’s the Series That Will Not Die.

I don’t remember that!

Netflix brought it back for I think 4 episodes, it is called ‘w/Bob and David’

I didn’t know this was so common. FWIW, I’m more thinking of shows that have been off the air for a few years, that then get revived. I’m not so much talking about a show that is picked up by another network the next year.

American dad was dropped by Fox (I think) then picked up by TBS. I’m more thinking of if American dad got cancelled, then five years later another network revives it. Does anyone other than netflix do that?

Some of the shows Netflix is doing like fuller house or w/bob and david have been cancelled for 20 years.

Again, Black Mirror was not cancelled, at least not to my knowledge. It just switched networks, if you would.

No, although Netflix did put Bob Odenkirk and David Cross in a new show that has a lot of the same writers.

The Paper Chase was a TV series that ran for only one season on CBS in 1978-9. Showtime then revived it four years later and produced three more seasons, which included John Houseman (as Prof. Kingsfield, reprising the role for which he won an Academy Award in the film version of the novel) and James Stephens (as the student James Hart).

I think what Showtime in 1983 and Netflix today have in common is that they’re both relatively new to producing original scripted series. (Wikipedia suggests that The Paper Chase was one of the very first series on Showtime.) So perhaps they feel that they can get a jump start on creating content and attracting an audience by reviving existing series.

The Mindy Project got revived by HULU.

I’m not sure if Ripper Street was cancelled by the BBC and then rescued up by Amazon because now BBC will show it a few months after Amazon does. Maybe the BBC was deliberately outsourcing? Watched the last ever three episodes this morning…I will miss it.

Longmire was continued by Netflix after A&E dumped it after season three (it was their second-most popular program). An aside: Netflix will air one more season, the sixth and final.

Babylon 5 was cut by their syndicator after 4 seasons, then TNT picked it up for season 5. They also picked up its spinnoff Crusade but when they cancelled that (before it even aired) no one saved that one. At least they actually aired the episodes that were made.

Seasons 1-5 were on Showtime. 6-10 on SciFi/Syfy, along with all of Atlantis and Universe.

They also ran these shows in weekend syndication not long after the initial airings on cable, rather than the typical rerun syndication model. Other shows have had similar arrangements, I remember Highlander doing something like that, airing on USA and in syndication during the same season.
