Do you recognize it from this rather vague description?: A older woman (probably a widow) has financial problems. To make some money, she grows marijuana in her garden. This is probably a recent film, since my friend’s wife was recommended the film Waking Ned Devine by the same person.
Kirk Jones has only directed one film, so it’s not by him.
However, a quick search on the keywords widow and marijuana suggests that Saving Grace is your movie.
Thank you. It does appear to be Saving Grace that my friend’s wife was recommended. There appears to be some confusion at some point in the description of the film, since it’s a British film and not an Irish one. I don’t think that the person who recommended this film to my friend’s wife said that it was directed by Kirk Jones. It’s just that Waking Ned Devine was mentioned in the same conversation, and I presumed therefore that the film I was looking for was probably made about the same time.
Since I’m too late to tell you the title, I’ll just second your friend’s recommendation. I loved it
