back in 1994/95 at uni we used to go on the internet all the time and there were these talkers you could go on and chat to people. I think they were Ewtoo talkers or something, there were lots of different ones the ones I remember are Surfers, Forrest, Castle but there were lots more. Do they still exist? I havent used them for about 8 years.

I honestly couldn’t tell what it was from the link either. Is it sort of like a social oriented mud or a primitive irc program?
I used to visit talkers A LOT. I remember Mumu Land, Crossroads and The Dungeon pretty well. I also remember an ocean-themed one and a Pern themed talker.
They were basically chat rooms, a social oriented mud would be a good description.
Ah, clear as a bell. There was one at my university called “Monster”. The joke among the techies was that it was a chat line with a punch command. 
I know there are quite a few Muds and Mushes still around. I’d be very, very surprised if more than a few weren’t socially oriented. I believe Google’s directory listings has a number of good mud directory sites listed that should point you in the right direction.
I only ever used the social ones, but once tried a MUD and I didnt have a clue what was going on or what I was supposed to do. Could anyone explain MUDs? There was a guy at my uni addicted to them but I never worked it out.
My father remembers Talkies, but then he’s 77.
I hung around talkers, mostly the Monty Python one they used to have up and may still, but I was more of a MUDder.

Talker = chat-mud.
MUD = multi user dungeon/domain.
It is basically Everquest without the pretty pictures. There are of course other themes as well as the classic medievil fantasy genre.

I LOVED these … I was an admin on one called The World, which a high school friend introduced me to so he & I could chat without using the phone. I still talk to friends I made on that.
There was also V-RAVE (wow, blast from the past), and The SpaceBar, and Oyaron Hills, and … and … and …
I was such a geek. And nothing has changed (I’m still a geek), except now there’s voice and avatars and graphics … in my day, we didn’t have those fancy thingamajigs, we just typed and used “emote” and private “say” commands and we liked it!
One of my best mates used to be on Surfers back in 94. I never took part, dunno why. Sommat to do with being an antisocial cow, I’d imagine…
