OK,first off this may come across as a bit of a ramble as I only just sat down to collate this all this stuff tonight.
Does anyone besides me see something strange happening in our visual and printed media, everything from TV programs to movies and certain Magazines this list is huge, ranging from Zombies asteroid hits apocalyptic invasions etc all centering on some form of Doomsday which in itself is not unusual hollywood loves to vomit this stuff out the strange part is the amount of it being released and how it is also dovetailing into the supernatural with far more vigor. This again is ok by itself but we are now having TV stations like discovery and national geographic adding to this with their own supernatural style programs Also Government agencys that were shuttered or had funding drastically reduced,by these I mean SETI, and the agency that monitors NEO.NEO is getting more hits on objects that could be a major ouch moment for life on earth and the discovery of hundreds of new earth like planets in our universal back yard by the Hubble telescope.
Ok again sorry for the verbal diarrhea my question what do you think is happening if anything?Am I over analyzing a string of random events or is there a hidden softening up for a big event and Hollywood and Government are in bed together to prepare us for the main event
You mean like the string of bad 50s alien invasion movies?
Or all the doomsday cultists and pulp fiction of the last couple centuries?
Yeah, I see something happening: as in past generations, Hollywood, fiction writers, and others know what sells and provide it.
That we have greater choice in the vehicle for media consumption (more TV channels, the internet, etc) is immaterial to the fact that people have been eating up this stuff for decades.
Were you recently at Costco buying that bulk roll of aluminum foil?
FWIW, the American psyche ebbs and flows within the larger political/economic riptides. During the height of the Cold War the media played up the fears with similar movies and TV series, plying on overt and implied fears.
I will have you know Tin Foil is hard to get all they have is aluminum and it doesn’t work I still hear the voices
but compare and contrast the the genre between the 50’s through to today and see what happens we have always had alien movies and monster movies true but there is a subtle difference in the way they are being presented and how they are being pared with actual scientific discoveries. I just have this odd idea and believe me i know it is odd but to quote a colloquialism “somethin ain’t right”
Ir is characteristic of the human mind to see patterns. Hence, the popular expressions like “connect the dots”. Its a very important and useful thing, to see the patterns that are there. Its also somewhat useful to see the patterns that aren’t there, and, no, I’m not kidding. Its good exercise, it keeps the imagination lubricated and every once in a while, we hit on a new insight, a different configuration, and…nine times out of ten…that new configuration is useless and discardable.
But sometimes its not, and when it pays off, it pays off big. The only trick is to tell the difference, to know which of these patterns we toss over our shoulders with a chuckle, and which we set aside for later and closer inspection.
Thing is, if that pattern is astonishing, if that pattern is revolutionary, if that pattern sets everything we think we know on its ear? It is virtually certain to be wrong.
We all have that friend, I am guessing. That rock solid, earth-bound, flat eyed realist, the man who doesn’t believe anything he hears and only half what he sees. Go talk to him.
Sometimes these weird patterns take hold, but usually all it take to dissolve them is another viewpoint. But if someone you know and trust tells you your swimming in the deep cold water it can’t hurt to listen.
My two bits: no way in Hell. Hollywood, conniving with government to keep a secret that fucking big? Hollywood people? Neutron density narcissists who crave attention like you crave air? If only two people knew about this, the secret might be safe if one of them were dead. In Hollywood, that dead guy would post it to his Facebook page.
Of course, maybe Kim Kardashian’s mad math skills would prove useful, or Tom Cruise’s astrophysical expertise…
No. Just no. This one is absitively, posolutely one to toss over your shoulder, and chuckle. Enjoy it, talk about it, but don’t waste a moment of your precious life worrying about it. Play with the dog, maybe go get a dog. Watch a baby sleep.
Someday? Sure, that’s possible, maybe someday. But not today.
Elucidator thanks for that and yup I do toss most chaff over my shoulder and your right with regards to hollywood and secrets coexisting together bit of an oxymoron. I certainly don’t worry about it but it just stuck me as so odd that current events in RL could be so close to Hollywoods apocalyptic latest fare of disaster movies.wanted to place them in a tidy row to see if a fortune cookie would jump out
I’m telling you, don’t watch tv! I can’t stand discovery and “educational” programming anymore, I don’t know what I can believe and what is lies. Especially when they imply “the government is trying to cover up their findings” if that were true then it wouldn’t be on tv…
There is a kind of evolution at play in hollywood - whatever is successful gets lots of exposure and captures the imagination of the public, including the writers who will produce the next generation of stories.
So once an idea (zombies, asteroid apocalypse, overpopulation, whatever) appears once in a movie that turns out to be very popular, the chances are that it will be repeated - and we end up with a cluster or wave of movies with broadly similar themes.
You doubters may laugh, but you just wait until it’s 2012, you just wait…
If Doomsday is coming, it seems rather pointless to go to all this expense and trouble to hide it and simultaneously prepare us for it. We’re all dead either way, so why bother?
This.
I’m just hoping to get eaten first.
Then we should prepare for the Sharkpocalypse.
I’m seeing something strange: A noticeable decline in the use of grammar and punctuation in written communication these days. If that isn’t a sign of the apocalypse, I don’t know what is!
They’ll circle back around to buddy cop movies (1980s) eventually, and then we’ll be posting to ask whether the powers-that-be are preparing us for changes to the police force that make sure one officer strictly follows the rules and his partner is an amusing rule-breaker.
Exactly. Why prepare us and hide it from us at the same time?
What would be the purpose of preparing us for Doomsday? I mean, for the powers that be? When the whole world crumbles, what did the Illuminati accomplish by saturating the media with doomsday scenarios? OK, people are used to the idea of doomsday. That benefits the Illuminati…how?
Not much point in tracking near earth objects. Even if we detected one coming to hit us it would be too late to do anything about it.
Quite the opposite; if we detect a NEO, we can use these wondrous new devices called com-pu-ters to predict its path and find out if it might pose a threat years from now. “Near Earth” doesn’t automatically mean “on imminent collision course with Earth.” If this actually is the case, I agree there’s not much to do besides duck and hope.
But they’ll eventually get back to teenage vampires and I don’t think I can go through that again.
