Thank you for your contribution. Such a joy, as always.
I mean, seriously, have you ever posted *anything *here that wasn’t telling people how stupid they are? Or silly? Or pointless? Or just generally shitting on other people or threads?

Many, many times. And I doubt I’m alone in thinking that speculation of Presidential candidates this far out is pretty silly. What happens in November is going to tell the tale for a lot of these fantasy league candidates, not whether they go on Ellen.
If you have an issue with another poster, the Pit is the correct venue. Or you could report it. Leave out this commentary pseudo junior nodding, please.

Fair enough and apologies.
But CarnalK: what difference does it make to you if people are speculating about 2020? If it weren’t for idle chatter and speculation and debates and discussions, what the hell is this place? Why do you feel the need to call our discussion silly?
Because this thread is about him running for Senate. It’s beyond silly to speculate on his Presidential bid when we don’t even know how he’s done on his first state level campaign. And if the polls are off and he gets creamed, no one will remember his name next year. If he wins, there’s going to be huge pressure on him to hold his seat for the entire term, given how miraculous a win it would be. I am not ordering anyone not to make these wild conjectures and guesses but come on. The Presidential campaign is frigging long enough without speculating on itbefore midterms.
Ok, in the course of this discussion, someone posted that they could see him in the White House someday, not an unusual prediction for someone with his youth, charisma and his apparent popularity in a red state. I then posted an article from a Texas publication regarding a possible path to the White House for Beto, notably if he loses his bid for Cruz’s Senate seat. None of this is out of line for this thread, near as I can tell; a mere side discussion. But that’s what many people find interesting about this place, the organic direction threads can meander. I’m sorry if it doesn’t appeal to you. I’m sorry you find our discussion of Beto’s surging political career silly. But that’s all this is: a discussion of his Senate race and possible paths for him now and in the future. Good golly.
And I’m sorry the word “silly” offended you so. I’ll try to think of a gentler word for next time. Stumped at the moment though.
I’m the one who said I thought he would be president someday. Texas Monthly doesn’t consider such speculation silly, but l for one am (to quote my late husband) shickled titless to be labeled silly for same.

Or just let discussions happen without looking for a word to let us know how pointless you think they are.
Huh, I know it was considered safe but I’m a still surprised by that article’s mention that this marks “first such intervention by a Republican outside group in this race.”
No one likes the Zodiac Killer.
If you killed the Zodiac Killer on the floor of the Senate…
I also can see a nascent presidential-ness is Beto. It doesn’t hurt that the guy evokes Bobby Kennedy. I like what I hear from this guy and think he could have the stuff for a White House run some day.
But he has this odd way of sort of dancing about a bit somewhat spastically when he is engages the audience at the crescendos of one of his lines. Nothing horrible about it, it just comes across as odd and herky-jerky.
I agree that Beto has this certain something about him that reeks of presidential timber. When I saw Obama give the keynote address in 2004 I thought to myself there’s the next president right there. Watching the clip about the anthem controversy I get much the same feeling. I think he will indeed be president some day
He need some “on camera” polish. It is a learnable skill. Any politician on a national level should always assume they are on camera at all times and comport themselves as if they are. Cameras like relaxed physical stillness, they don’t like movement and random gestures.
I believe Abraham Lincoln was a herky jerky dancer, so it’s not a deal breaker.
The US in 1860 had no mass communication.
Remember, we’re in the Trump era. People of different backgrounds can be President. If a reality TV star can be President, why not a herky jerky dancer?
