Okay, in another section, there’s this discussion that Britney Spears has been corresponding to Prince William via e-mail. The thread also mentions her wanting to be a “Princess Britney”. Based on this following section of the USC:
“United States Code
TITLE 8 - ALIENS AND NATIONALITY , CHAPTER 12 - IMMIGRATION AND NATIONALITY SUBCHAPTER III - NATIONALITY AND NATURALIZATION
[Snipped for brevity . . .]
Section B:
(b) Hereditary titles or orders of nobility
In case the person applying for naturalization has borne any hereditary title, or has been of any of the orders of nobility in any foreign state, the applicant shall in addition to complying with the requirements of subsection (a) of this section, make under oath in the same public ceremony in which the oath of allegiance is administered, an express renunciation of such title or order of nobility, and such renunciation shall be recorded as a part of such proceedings.”
Would she be forced to renounce her citizenship for taking a title of nobility? If not under this clause, is there another clause or law that says she has to?
DAMN! That’s it. I now dedicate my life to finding some obscure law that either a) allows Congress to strip citizenship of those with noble titles, or b) allows the people to impeach people that do the same.
Strange, as I type this, “Oops I screwed up again” pops up on the radio. I take it as a sign from God . . .
Oh, give it up people…you’re not getting rid of her through subtle means. Let’s just get it over with and lynch her. I’ll provide the feathers if someone brings hot tar!
This is untrue, but since it’s about the fourth time I’ve come across it on these boards, it must be a commonly-held belief in the US. Where do you get it from?
FWIW, the British press says that the whole William/Britney thing is the invention of her publicist.
well, considering that both her and Justin Timberlake of N’SUCK have publicly announced their engagement, this whole discussion becomes moot.
And the law states that people APPLYING for U.S. citizenship must renounce titles, but there is no law forbidding established U.S. citizens from accepting titles. There ARE some fairly prominent Americans that have purchased British titles of nobility. The CEO of Post or Kellogs or something like that is an Earl, IIRC.
So, to eliminate Brittany, we’re gonna have to sneak into her house, and remove her vocal chords. Seems to be the only option.
She must sing it herself, because there’s no way in hell a major studio would hire a voice-over artist that bad. The singing’s so awful it’s just got to be Britney. If it was any good, you’d have reason to be suspicious.
Incidentally, if Britney Spears marries a guy from N’Suck, just how shallow and dumb will THEIR kids be?
“Like, ommyGOD, you hafta, like, change the diapers? But, like, they’re so GROSS!”
I wonder if Britney will be able to breast-feed her kids after her “knee surgery”…
[hi, Jack]
No, not defending her, but as a thirty year old Deadhead, I avoid pop radio / television like the plague. I can think of a lot or reasons to dislike her, but don’t know any specifics as to why she is a greater evil then the average actress on MTV. Anyone care to list off a few Britney-specific reasons for loathing the strumpet? [Bye, Jack]
Are you implying HRH Latifah is not a real queen?!! Pistols at dawn, sir!
As for the OP - the statute provision you cite refers to the naturalization of citizens, not the granting of titles to U.S. citizens. If Prince William moved to the U.S. to marry the Britster and wanted to become a U.S. citizen, he would have to renounce his title. The statute has no bearing on Brittany
