Does elevator etiquette differ between cultures?

From my experience there’s some correlation between behaviors whilst getting on/off on subways, elevators and buses - when looking at different countries. It’s not 100% but I find those behaviors happen more frequently. For instance the pushing on/off buses, the subway and elevators happens a lot in China but all three are rare in the UK, but people in the UK *love * to queue; they really do. That way they know their entrance will be first come, first served rather than the person the most in a hurry/persistent getting through first.

(that’s socialism for ya!)

OT I in the late eighties I had the stupendous stupid job of being an elevator operator in a fully automated elevator car that worked with standard floor buttons. This was in Manhattan in a public building. I just stood there and asked people which floor and then pushed the button for that floor. Sometimes I held the “door open” button for slow pokes who need more time to exit. I wore a security guard uniform. The whole thing was a mystery to me. I made just under $14K per year irc. I am amazed I retained my sanity.
