Does Frederik Pohl lurk on the SDMB?

I recently picked up a paperback copy of Pohl’s “The Boy Who Would Live Forever,” the first new novel in his Gateway series in 15 years.

Imagine my surprise when, on page 90, I find reference to a “goat projector,” a device to fire goat carcasses into an African river for the purpose of luring crocodiles to help reinforce aversion therapy on Australopithecenes… well, it’s complicated. But a few paragraphs later, on page 91, we read “the goat carcass soared out of the launcher and into the water.”

Either great minds do indeed think alike, or Mr. Pohl is referencing The great goat cannon thread of 2000.

Coincidence? Rip-off? Homage to the SD?

What do you think?

OK, we’ll give it one bump.

Hmmm…

If he’s here, I hope he reveals himself. I enjoy his writings immensely! I missed this HeeChee book tho, so now I must have it!

If he does: Thanks very much for Gateway!!!
