Does Israel have nukes?

Just wondering…

YUP… bet on it

Yes they do.

They do, and everyone knows they do, but they officially won’t admit it. See this page from the Federation of American Scientists, which has links to information and discussion about the Israeli nuclear weapons program.

Not only do they have nukes, but there are recent reports that they may have submarines equipped with nukes.

Israel is capable of taking care of itself. Something the Arabs had better finally learn before they push Israel into doing something drastic.

Thanks to America, Israel can have whatever it wants.

Read MEB’s link for the nukes.

The subs are German; the missiles are homemade.

Israel is ALWAYS doing something drastic. However they always have had full and almost unquestioned US support, support which might not be around forever. Maybe Israel should think about this the next time they implement their drastic measures.

Yup, if the oil dries up or a massive move from fossil fuels happens then we are really going to have to worry about those nukes. The US will hang Israel out to dry(and they already feel vulnerable with massive US backing).

I’ve read that that is part of the weapons’ purpose, if the US doesn’t keep the Arabs in line the mideast could go nuclear. I wonder what a nuke in Iraq would do to oil prices.

Actually, fossil fuels is why the Americans have held the Israelis back. If the Arab nations lost their value as oil-producers, either by diminishing stocks or shifts to alternate fuels, there won’t be as compelling an American interest in talking Israel out of seizing and holding large portions of Arab land.

The whole issue may become moot, though. By the time the Arab OPEC states lose their economic clout, Israeli and Palestinian moderates will have been outbred by extremists and no end of the issue short of open warfare will present itself.

Israel all by itself could lay waste to huge portions of Arab territory. I’m not sure Israel is anyone’s to hang out to dry.

Actually, the thing holding back Israel is Israel. Unless you’ve all forgotten, Israel is a democracy, with values very similar to those in the U.S. There is a large peace movement, a faction of the government willing to appease Arabs, etc.

Any attempt to just ‘sieze’ Arab land will be met with as much opposition as the U.S government would face it it decided to annex Mexico.

However, one aspect of democracy that people forget is that once the population feels truly threatened, they can rise up and demand that their government take extremely drastic measures to assure their safety. The Israelis are in no danger of deciding to attack, say, Egypt or Syria, but the Palestinians could find themselves ejected out of their lands, or some of the border areas of Lebanon and Syria could wind up being attacked and permanently occupied by Israel to provide buffers. And then if the Arab nations decide to step up the violence in retaliation, we’ll have another Arab-Israeli war - and this time, it’ll probably go nuclear, and Israel will win.

A major problem Israel would have to contend with in the use of ANY size nuke would be prevailing (and TOT) winds. Otherwise, it could literally be like shooting themselves in the foot…, ankle, leg, thigh, chest, and head.

It’s pretty pointless to spend bytes mentioning the other obvious complications in using a nuke anywhere in their neighborhood.

Nothing like a nuke to blur that “Green line” into a hazy brown circle.

Very briefly for those who don’t want to read thru the article: reactors and fuel-enrichment technology from France.

And these subs would be more likely to pack cruise-type missiles than ballistic missiles like the American or Russian big “boomers” carry.

( Israel sailing U-Boots… some people are spinning in their graves for sure  )

Yeah, Hitler and his henchmen, for example.
