Does it bother you if a dog sh**s in your yard, but the owner cleans it up?

I really can’t imagine how it could. Just wondering, because I seem to get some nasty looks from people –
But, I always clean up after my pup!

Would this upset any of you? If so, Why?

Heck, if I saw you cleaning it up, I’d thank you!!

My neighbor’s little turd factories seem to prefer my lawn to hers, but I never actually catch them in the act. But there are only 2 little mutts on the cul-de-sac that are allowed to run free and they’re hers. All the other dogs I see are leashed or too big to have made said deposits.

You always clean up? Then no problem. Mark my yard anytime!

Heck, if your pooch does his duty behind my bushes where nobody walks or sees, then you don’t even have to pick the doo up! Leave it to fertilize the bushes.

Then again, I am a dog lover. Others MMV obviously varies.

I’d much rather see you with a pooper scooper than a cork. Wouldn’t bother me at all. You’re being a good neighbor. Anyone who thinks a Golden Retriever was named for it’s ability to clean up after itself is just nuts.

I do cause when they pee they also make a big brown stain on the lawn sometimes.

In all honesty, it would bother me.

It’s a purely territorial thing. Is it barbaric? Yes. Is it justified? I think so. There’s another animal, even if it is just a dog, in my territory. And not only is he in my territory, he’s pooping in my territory. And not only is he pooping there, but his master is just letting him go to it.

Cleaning it up afterwards, tho’ very kind, has little to do with the act other than to belay a bit of the protective instinct that I would feel.

Sure, it’s silly, but I’d probably look at you funny if you let your dog do his business in my yard. It’s purely an instinctual thing. A sense of morality keeps me from running out on my lawn with a bat and beating you senseless for something so trivial, and common decency keeps me from yelling at you, or being a jack-ass. But, I prolly would still give you a look.

No offense.

handy,

my dog pisses in the same place all the time, it’s the poop that happens in random yards.

Simetra: Do you also get mad if a kid comes into your yard to fetch an wayward baseball? How about if a bird lands in your yard?

I would have a problem with it for two reasons:

First, most of the dog owners I have seen (probably not you), pick up after their dog ONLY when they know they’ve been seen. My neighbors on both sides let their dogs come into my yard every day. I find dozens of piles when I mow. But only if they see me in my yard will they come over, pick up the most recent mess, and pretend to scold the dog. It’s only a show.

Second, the dogs that use my yard as a rest stop then seem to think that this yard is now THEIR territory. Almost every time I go out in my yard the neighborhood dogs come into my yard and bark at me to leave. Wait a minute, whose place IS this?

As you can see, both of my objections hinge on the dog owners being irresponsible. I blame them, not the dumb animals.

I could care less. Heck, My dog pees and poops in my yard so why should I care who else pees or poop is there?

This of course applies to anyone but you Mouthturbator as the court has already mandated that you are not to be within 100 feet of myself or my property.

YiBaiYuan, that makes sense.

I probably didn’t explain my situation very well. All the yards in the neighborhood are pretty small, and there are very few fenced in yards. So, Dog is never out running free. We leash her and take her for ~ 5 walks a day. So I see her every single time she takes a dump, and I know exactly where it is.

I have no problem understanding how it can be annoying with dogs running free and doing their thing where and when they like, especialy when it is your yard. Irresponsible pet owners (much like parents) are a royal pain in the ass and should be subjected to public floggings.

I hope you don’t live in the neighborhood where I walk my dogs. I *always *pick up my dog’s poo, whether someone is observing me or not. I don’t really have a choice in “letting her go to it” because I’m just walking along, suddenly she’s squatting and going, am I supposed to yank her away in half-poop? Luckily it’s usually on the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the road. Lots of times I see some other dog’s poop nearby but damned if I’m going to pick up some other dog’s poo. If you see my dog pooping and me cleaning it up, but go out there and there’s still poop, IT’S NOT MY DOG’S!

And as you drive down the street I live on, I will certainly give you dirty looks when you throw your garbage, used condoms and cigarette butts (often still burning) out your window into my yard. That bothers me a lot more than some dog poop, although if someone didn’t pick up the poop and I saw it happen, I might just say something to them. If they pick it up, I might say something to them, too: “Thank you!”

I think it’s the rudest goddamn thing in the world when people don’t clean up after their dogs. I HATE HATE HATE mowing the lawn and running over dog poop, getting it on my shoes, etc.

So if you cleaned up your dog’s poop, you’d get a hug from me. Or something.

Can’t you walk your dog and let it go somewhere that isn’t someone’s yard, like a park? I’d never let my dog go (pee or poop) on someone else’s property, to me that is just plain disrespectful. Even if you do clean it up, there are plenty of people who don’t, and I can see it causing bad vibes between property owners and dog owners. They see dog poop, and anyone walking a dog is suspect.

I have three dogs, and we have about 3/4 of our yard fenced…I either walk them in a nearby park, or we pile in the car and go to the larger parks outside town. And even a little dog pee will kill grass - that I know from experience, not to mention shrubs and other plants they lift their leg on.

Well, I don’t know about you, Boscibo, but when I’m walking my dogs, if they want to take a poop, they stop right there and take a poop. Doesn’t matter where it is; dogs have no concept of “oh gee, I really needed to poop here, but it IS the neighbour’s lawn, I guess I’ll hold it in for a bit.” And the only time I’m going to YANK my dog away from doing his/her business is if they’re in a place that could be dangerous (i.e. on a sidewalk with bicycles approaching or in the middle of a street (when we’re crossing it)).

I always clean up my dogs’ poop. Each one has a ziploc bag allotted to them each time we go around the block.

Oh, and what about people who don’t have a nearby park? Why should I drive five miles (at least) to go to the park when I can just go outside my door and walk around my block (which is about a mile long all around)?

I don’t mind as long as they clean up. My husband has gone so far as to grab a baggie and drop off a dog’s “offering” in the owner’s yard when he’s seen the person just blithely walk off after the dog does this. I had dogs when I was a kid, and know that when a dog has to go, it has to go.

My park is nearby, and I don’t have to pass anyone’s yard to get to it. I grant that not everyone is so lucky, but I have lived in other places where I did take my dog - in the car - to a place where he could go without having to be in anyone’s yard. It’s part of taking resposibility as a pet owner, just as I don’t grumble when I have to pile on ten layers to take the dogs out when it’s 20 degrees below zero. Sure, it’s an inconvenience, but it is part of owning a dog.

Or what’s wrong with having your dog do their business in your own yard? That’s where my dogs go 99% of the time.

Squatting and straining on someone’s front lawn is somewhat lacking in social decorum. I don’t particularly like watching a big dog poop on the lawn, but I’ve never known a dog to adhere to human social conventions and go in search of privacy before dropping his load. I’ve seen some dog owners try to keep their pooches off private property, and that’s appreciated.

If it’s promptly scooped up and carried off, I wouldn’t particularly mind if a dog shat on my lawn.

I can understand issues with dog pee however, that wrecks lawns and gardens and is particulalry unsightly in winter.

My yard is not a public toliet. Ditto public streets and parks. What your dog does to your yard is your business.

I am appalled that people take their dogs out to soil their neighbors’ yards. What is going thru their brains?

No one can grow bushes next to their mailboxes in my neighborhood. They all die from urine overdose.

Who cares if you clean up the doo? You’re not going to get all of it and urine is a worse killer.

"who cares if you clean up the do? "

So if you dont care at all, then it’s all the same if it is just left there? BTW, why am I not going to get rid of it all?

Also, when I take the dog out for a walk, the point is not “lets see how many yards you can shit in, girl!” Walking the dog is a normal routine, and it’s good exercise and good for a dog’s mental and physical health. Dogs will go when and where they get the urge.
Also, what is it about urine that kills plants? I have had dogs my entire life and with three different dogs, the grass always grew back greener, thicker, and more full in the areas where they pissed. How can some urine be good for plants and other urine kill it?

I always clean up after my dog, and so do 99% of the people in my neighborhood. I have no problem with someone’s dog going in my yard as long as it’s cleaned up. And ftg unless the dog has diarrhea, it’s actually quite easy to clean up all the droppings. They’re fairly hard, and you can pick 'em right up.

Urine seems to be a problem only if one spot is urinated on over and over and over. The occasional pee doesn’t do any harm that I can see. Otherwise my entire backyard would be dead!
