It wasn’t much of a surprise.
The GOP’s (and, presumably, Rove’s) latest dirty tricks:
Hundreds of thousandsof fake robocalls in marginal districts.
Signs near polling places reading “Encourage terrorists, vote Democratic”.
I’d imagine the slime is just beginning.
Saddam’s neatly timed death sentence also wasn’t a dirty trick – certainly it was calculated for the Repubs’ advantage in this election cycle, but it’s not in the same league with some of the other stuff Rove has been up to.
Yeah, that irritates me as a Democrat, too.
I am reminded of Grant’s annoyance at his subordinates’ awestruck fear of Robert E. Lee. Said Grant: “You’d better stop worrying about what Lee’s going to do to you, and start worrying about what you’re going to do to him!”
Yes he does.
Rove has contracted with Jesus to re-appear hours before election day. Jesus will tell the heathens that unless they vote democat, they will go to hellfires for eternity. The heathens will be given a 1-minute in hell demonstration. This is the only trick Rove can pull which wil prevent the dems from gaining the house.
Also Bigfoot will be vote monitor at several polling stations.
The dirty tricks are on in Tennessee.
Was Rove behind it? Probably not. But election fraud is a key component of the Republican campaign.
I just read about that on Salon. Very curious situation. Of six weekend polls:
2 show big gains for Pubs.
1 shows small gains for Pubs.
3 show no gains and huge margins of victory for Dems.
Of course the nationwide surveys say nothing about individual races. Also, ten s of millions of votes had already been cast before this remarkable turn of the tide. Still, it would have to be a little bit suspicious if an enormous lead for the Democrats suddenly melted away in the last 2 days after persisting for over a year, especially if the Democrats came up particularly short in districts that count votes electronically.
Yes and no. Any attempt to predict the election results hangs on predicting voter turnout. To the extent that this gives us incite into voter turnout, but party, it helps interpret other polls concerning individual races. The article makes it clear that the correlation is not exact, but it does explain how the results can help us say something about the net result of the election even if doesn’t tell us anything about any particular race.
That didn’t turn out right…
To the extent that this gives us insight into voter turnout, by party, it helps interpret other polls concerning individual races.
We could make up all kinds of whacky ideas. Like a conservative who publically stated he’ll do anything to ensure a Republican victory being the guy that programs the voting computers. In a state where the majority of voters said they voted Democrat in exit polls but the computer results showed a Republicans won.
Oh the Dems are not relying on Bigfoot. They have about 7,000 lawyers, poll-watchers an assorted folk on hands to keep an eye out for PUbbie shenanigans at the polls. Good on 'em I say.
But what will happen if you’re wrong? That is, if the Republicans do lose big?
I’m sure the Republicans will react in a sportsmanlike manner & make no complaints. They will pledge to work with their Democratic colleagues in a true spirit of bipartisanship.
Or maybe not.
But exit polls can only be used to prove election fraud in places like the Ukraine. In the US they have no value and that the biggest discrepancies occur in precincts with e-voting and that all errors benefit one party is a mere coincidence.
Empahsis added. Yes, you did.
What, no mention of Tan Nguyen’s “Hispanic immigrants can’t vote” letter?
(And it’s such an amazing coincidence that all the dirty tricks uncovered so far have been beneficial to Republicans…)
This is what the Republicans have: harassing robocalls pretending to be from the Dem candidate, and “Dems will raise your taxes” ads.
Lies and dirty tricks.
The GOP has demonstrated that, for them, it’s all about power, and anyone who supports them is, knowingly or not, making a deal with the devil.
You know better than that, John.
No, he didn’t. A few details were off, but he got the essence of it, alrighty.
Well, that’s the Dems’ fault, isn’t it?
Get with the program, guys!
Define “dirty tricks” … would the voter fraud (indictments have been made already) in Missouri by ACORN qualify?
I’d go find a cite but you are so intelligent and well-researched that you don’t need it. ![]()
