Anyone know if the new Google cell phone (Pixel) [just announced yesterday] has adoptable SD card memory?
And the maximum SD card memory you can install?
I tried looking for an instruction manual for this phone, but can find one.

No, and none. No SD card capability at all, consistent with Google phones for the last several years.
ETA: The only Google-brand phone or tablet which had any SD card capability was the first: the Nexus One.
OK, so I see the Google Pixel Cell Phone comes with “storage” of 32GB or 128GB.
So I guess this is internal memory which has already been “Adopted”?
But that will do nicely. This is what I have done in the past when buying a cell phone which typically comes with too little memory to install all the apps I want (Like 1 GB!) So I then add on a 32 GB SD card and move apps to that.
But it seems they have listened to their customers and provide a phone with plenty of memory from the get go!
Yeah, their recent phones have fairly good internal storage. My Nexus 6p is the 64 GB version and I don’t feel pinched yet after 9 months.
Remember, too, that they also want you using their cloud storage offering, Google Drive, for data storage. So, taking the Google Music app as an example, you’d store your music on Drive, saving the phone’s internal storage for apps and such.
Their rationale seems a bit weird and contrived to me - does it make sense to anyone else?
Do people really struggle with expandable memory in phones? I’ve never heard of it (I have, on the other hand, heard a lot from people struggling when they run out of memory in their non-expandable handset).
Granted the Pixel appears to be backed up by ‘unlimited’ cloud storage or something, but that appears to be newer than their stance on expandable memory.
With previous versions of Android, there was an option for apps to “Move to SD Card”.
Around version 6, they changed that to “Adoptable memory”. That is you could install a SD card, then make that “Internal Memory”. And then you would have plenty of additional space for apps!.. But…
LG and Samsung disabled that feature! So now you are stuck with not enough memory for apps in your phone AND NO WAY TO RESOLVE THAT PROBLEM, as they also removed the feature of “Move to SD Card”!
The problem is simply that manufacturers don’t install enough storage memory, so people run out of space for their apps. Like they will only install 1, 2, or 3GB of internal storage memory. Then they install a bunch of apps you can’t remove, even if you don’t want them. And not enough room for the apps you do want!
Anyway Google has at least listened to their customers and installed 32GB or 128GB of storage from the get go, so no problem! (Yea!)
FYI - I am not talking about installing much. On one cell phone I simply wanted to install an emergency notification app for the kids at school (school canceled or whatever). And not enough room! So I had to buy a new phone.
FYI - This has been a problem since they came out with the first P.C. in the 1980’s… Never enough memory or disk space, consumers need to add on more after purchase.
Depends on what you order. There’s a guy at work who has a PC that was ordered with 64GB of memory. That replaced a PC that was ordered with 32GB of memory.
