Does Papa John's pizza make anyone else ill?

It didn’t make me sick, but it was some of the worst I’ve had. Around here there are several pizza chains and that’s about it. I like most of them (though it’s not nearly as good as what I’ve gotten in New York and New Jersey). But my two experiences with Papa John’s were the worst - thin, cold, not much cheese, and the one time the people there were remarkably rude. I won’t eat it again. I hope they go out of business - let somebody with an acceptable product take over their locations!

When I moved out a couple years I ate TONS OF PIZZA. Delivery was new to me since I’d lives where it wasn’t an option. My fiancé and I ate it so much and always felt really crappy afterwards, almost as if we had just made the absolute worst dietary decision ever (I’m sure it prob was lol). But normally when I eat unhealthy greasy stuff it doesn’t make me feel THAT bad. I actually found this post after ordering papa johns for the last time my fiancé ate the pizza and puked it all up (wasn’t drinking and is fairly healthy/muscular). I refused to eat any before thank God. The last several times I’ve eaten their pizza or even chicken poppers, I have gotten diarrhea also but have thrown up too. Also, no alcohol or drugs involved. I cannot physically eat their food anymore. I honestly have no idea why because the first few times I ate it I loved it! I thought I was the only one with this problem but apparently not!

I don’t have any problem with Papa John’s, and usually that’s what we order when we order pizza.

The dough is overly sweet.

Note: 11 year old thread

My kid prefers Poppa Johns and while it doesn’t make us ill it’s far from my favorite. We’re going to be in Chicago later this year and I’ll look forward to trying some of what I’ve been hearing about for years.

I used to hate Papa John’s till I discovered that it’s not so bad…as long as it doesn’t come from the store nearest to my house.

Apparently I lived closest to the one store in my area that was managed by idiots.

Moving this for further and presumably updated conversation to Cafe Society, from IMHO.

I can’t eat “Chicken Express” Something in it causes my throat to close down!
I get the “squirts” from some fats, not from others… Banquet Brown&Serve Sasages are the worst!

I blame the Little Caesar’s Zombie.

This. Well, not quite this… I’ve found that the quality of pizza really depends on the individual store, rather than the chain. Some Dominos stores are terrible, some are great. Some Pizza Huts are terrible, some are great. Some Papa John’s stores are terrible, some might also be great, in principle, I’ve heard.

Little Caesars is easily the WORST of the chains you listed.

EDIT:And of course you didn’t list it, someone above did.

Still easily the worst.

Didn’t know this thread was that old wow! Oh well though. Just found it when googling papa johns making people sick lol. I have had papa johns in at least three states, and every single pizza does have it’s differences but all in all, they still make me sick. I am one of those travelers that orders delivery to avoid having to drive and find food when I’m dead tired. My mother father and brother/his family still love papa johns. But like me, my mom stops at one piece cuz of her sensitive stomach. I will tell you that the absolute worst pizza I have eaten from is dominos, and the best is from this place up in NC (Cherokee area near the huge gambling place). It’s a place that delivers pizza burgers chicken wings anything. Too bad I don’t live there

“Brains brains.”

NM didn’t notice the Zombie

Better Ingredients better pizza

However some stores cut costs by holding on to expired toppings too long.

Mine does not.

“Better ingredients. Salmonella. Papa John’s.”

Anyone amused that the first post in this thread talks about Zombies?

I’ve worked at Papa John’s for about 2 years here in Nashville, TN. Sometimes it makes me a little bloated and gassy, sometimes it doesn’t. I think it’s just the yeast in the dough and possibly the amount of cheese, which, as with all pizzas, is somewhat greasy.

I have a pretty sensitive stomach, though, because I was raised vegan for the first 9 years of my life…so if that wasn’t the case then I’d probably be fine.

Over all, I think that it’s the best chain pizza around. Chain. Nothing compares to most mom and pop new york style pizza joints. I love Pizza Hut, but their toppings are really low quality, flavorless, and made with tons of preservatives. And I personally hate Dominos’s sauce. It ruins the whole pizza for me.

Sorry you guys have had bad experiences with it. Everyone’s different. Also sometimes, depending on bosses and managers and whatnot, stores can vary from location to location…and franchise restaurants are slightly different from corporate ones.
