:minor spoiler:
It’s because later, they find a novel version of that episode(Dean and Sam actually find Supernatural novels). Dean opens that one and says, “Dude, I have sex in this one! I’m full frontal!”

Even though sadly, he was not.
…but I thought the point was looking at Dean and Sam and Castiel?
That last part becomes really interesting about halfway through Season 6.
Ok, i watched the next episode tonight, and even that was loads better, so I’m thinking the Racist Truck one was just a bad episode.

Thanks for posting this, I was just coming in here to link to the same topic and let the OP know I was in the same boat as her.
It certainly didn’t get any better for me. I was where you are, Anaamika. Bored by then. But I kept on because everyone kept telling me “It gets better…”
It did change from the monster of the week slowly but surely…and they DID add in a lot of continuing elements and storylines…but my boredom remained.
Still, I pressed on. “It gets better..just keep going…” people would say. I reached the end of season two. Still didn’t like it and wasn’t into it.
“But oooh, it gets better..” I heard from at least three different people. “Just be patient and wait…”
So I start season three. Get to the end of season three. I still don’t like the show and don’t give a flip about any of the characters. Yet I still had one person in my life, at that point (my brother), who was insisting I should keep giving it a try because in the next season, “it gets very deep and good”.
So I start season four…
…halfway through season four, I had enough. This was ridiculous. I should have stopped watching it wayyyy back on episode 12. Instead, I wasted my time for three and a half seasons when, in fact, I already KNEW I’d dislike the show back in season one.
Don’t do that. Don’t do what I did. Don’t waste your time. I have a newfound opinion: If it takes any more than 10 episodes of a show to care about the characters or get into it, it’s just not the show for you. It shouldn’t take 10 episodes to get into a show for anyone, IMO.
I tried to get my boyfriend to watch this with me. He got about ten minutes into the pilot before he insisted we turn it off. Now he refers to it as the Douchebag Show, feature the brothers, Smug Douchebag, and Whiny Douchebag.
Much as I enjoy the show, I have to say his observation holds more than a little merit.
I wonder what he’d think if he knew one of the actual titles is “Criss Angel is a Douchebag”?
The unappealing and uncompelling leads were why I quickly gave up on it.
I watched the first four seasons each week as new episodes came out and loved it. During season five I fell behind and decided to just buy it on dvd and watch the season that way but because of that I fell behind on season six so I decided to wait until six came out on dvd. Now I’m making my way through six and I still love it. It’s easily one of my top three TV shows of all time.
The first couple of seasons are all MotW. Since then seasons have season arcs with MotW episodes sprinkled in here and there.
Last night I just watched episode 15 of season six and it might be one of my favorite episodes.
I couldn’t stop laughing whenever Misha Collins would tweet because IRL he’s a big tweeter so having him do that in the show was hilarious to me. I also laughed when he gets killed. I love that he agreed to do that. I’ve always thought it would be a riot to get killed on a tv show.
I’m having the same problem. I feel like I should love this show, because…well, supernatural fiction! Celestial hierarchy! Angels! Demons! Vampires! Amber Benson guest-starring.
Instead, I’m six episodes in, and I only just barely give a crap what happens to either of the brothers. I’ve read spoilers. I know it gets really interesting. But damn if I can make myself watch it.
Sigh.
The only reason I got any further than halfway through season 1 is because I like having a TV show on while I study that I don’t have to pay much attention to. Those early episodes are really, really, really bad. Worse than Buffy season 1.
But I’m glad I stuck with it, because there’s a huge upswing in quality at the end of season 1 and the beginning of season 2. Really, it’s a very similar quality trajectory as Buffy, though the show is nowhere near as good.
I agree with Miller’s boyfriend re: the leads. They’re insufferable and incredibly douchey, but they’re so hot that I’m willing to overlook it.
It is a solid series with a few truly outstanding episodes. “The French Mistake” is about the most fun you can have watching TV. Any appearance by the Trickster also makes for high entertainment. You just have to realize that it ain’t X Files. It’s much cornier.
Which episode had Dean getting killed every few minutes?
Anyway - I liked the intial premise much better than the later episodes - the whole “Urban Legends as real” concept - and some of the later plays on religion and gods - but it fell down a bit after armageddon - but may be picking back up.
I believe it was “Mystery Spot.” Another favorite, featuring…better spoiler tag it just in case…
The Trickster.
I heart Mystery Spot. Another good one for the purposes of deciding whether you’ll like this show is “Wishful Thinking” in season 4. Again, no big spoilers I don’t think, and if you don’t find it hilarious, just stop, because you will not like this show.
“On Thursdays, we’re teddy bear doctors.”
“I don’t think they care.” This show has absolutely no problem going back and forth between the real world and their pretend fantasy world, and I love that.
Agreed!
Hot guys aren’t for everyone.
What other show on tv is going to have morose, suicidal teddy bears?
Let me fix that for you. ]…but I thought the point was looking at Dean [del]and Sam[/del] and Castiel?
A friend and I were plotting a supernatural fic that we ultimately abandoned, but I still like someone referring to Sam as having a “Neanderthal GQ look”
Just an FYI, for those not wanting to pay to watch the shows…
The reruns are on TNT network. They air two episodes a day. Just today (4/20), they started the series from the pilot (pilot) and the second episode (Wendigo). Monday will be episodes 3 and 4. They’ve done this several times before. This is how I have been able to catch up on all the episodes up to the current season.
I’ve got it on the DVR, and sometimes go through several episodes at a run. I know which ones I can skip (the racist truck, bug infestation) and which ones I want to see again (Wishful thinking, Trickster episodes, etc).
Supernatural is also on Netflix Streaming, where I’m still on season 1.
However, I don’t pretend to be a virgin while embarking on a show that has been around a while, so I’ve caught a few later episodes on TNT, on my days off. Yup, the brothers are hot–but Castiel is hotter!
