Does the AOL backgammon game still say "neener neener neener"?

I don’t have AOL anymore so I can’t check… but I was recently reminded of something that struck me at the time as being both pretty cool and slightly annoying. While playing the backgammon game on AOL you could do various emotes, many of which would play an accompanying sound file. One of them played a voice saying “neener neener neener”.

The first time I heard it I about jumped out of my chair, as did my husband. My mom was there and she had the same reaction. See, it was my voice. I’d recorded the wav at one point and passed it around to a few people in a chat room because I hadn’t been able to find a good “neener” wav elsewhere (just the one with the little kid)… and then I’d forgottenall about it.

There was no mistaking it though… exactly my voice, exactly my intonations, and I remembered having made a wav of myself saying that.

It was sort orf annoying though because there was no way to check or prove that it was me…

Anyway, I was just sort of wondering if that was still on there… anyone have AOL who can check? (Do they even still have backgammon?? heh)

They still have backgammon, but they contract all their games through pogo.com now, and they don’t have any “neener” sounds. Sorry.

You can access it through World Play. On AOL, go to “keyword” and type in “World Play Backgammon.” That will open it up for you eventually.

The Pogo backgammon sucks rocks, by the way. World Play is much better in terms of graphics and the way the game is actually played. More control for the individual player.

And they still have the “neener” at World Play.

Ack! Just remembered this thread! Well, if you listen to that neener sound, that’s me! Don’t you feel special now?

Yes, Opal, I do feel special. Next time I see you, you’ll have to “neener” me so I can hear it in person.

I told a backgammon buddy your story, too, and she thought it was very interesting. We “neener-ed” each other through the whole game after that.

I wish there was a way to capture that wav so I could have it again
