Most churches/religious organizations do some type of benevolent work – visiting the sick, helping the homeless, feeding the poor, etc. Do the Scientologists do anything like this?
I recently this magazine from them presumably detailing all their good works. Unfortunately I haven’t had the inclination to read it yet. However, recently my local newspaper did a big expose on them and many Scientologists wrote in to refute it, citing all the good the group does. I think food and toys for the poor at Christmas time was one. And . . . that’s all I got, sorry.
They work ceaselessly to remove the excess money from your wallet, lest you become beset with back pain and curvature of the spine.
They did an admirable job of helping a person I knew get off heroin. Unfortunately, his family then had to intervene to get him off Scientology.

I hope this isn’t too off track but a majority of the letters to the editor that I mentioned earlier described how The Church saved the individual’s life by getting them off drugs. I think all of them spoke of the financial prosperity they now enjoy. The thing is, they all had a “tone”. It could be my own prejudice (though I really don’t care about CoS one way or the other) but you could almost feel the brainwashing. If I can pull up that edition I’ll post a link.
