Does the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 2000 have a power button?

Or do you have to take the batteries out to turn it off?

From the videos I watched no one mentioned a power button.

This review does says the batteries last quite a long time though.

Thanks. I googled and couldn’t find anything about a power button. I didn’t know if my google-fu was weak, or if I’m just old.

Shortly after posting, the battery in the wireless mouse died. I went back to my old cubicle and got the wired keyboard and mouse. The wireless ones didn’t ‘feel right’ anyway. (I did turn off the mouse before I left the office, which I’m only in twice a week.)

I have a wireless mouse for my MacBook, but it’s rechargeable and can be used while it’s charging.

Many if not most wireless keyboards instantly turn themselves on when you press a key, and then turn off rather quickly afterwards–only staying on if you’re still continuously typing.

This is not so simple with wireless mice, as the laser needs to stay on to detect movement. However, newer ones do tend to go into a low power state that only detects rough movement. In practice, I find they tend to last as long as their keyboard brethren.

I had an idea that might be the case. Thanks for confirming.

A good way to check for poorly documented features is to search reviews. I didn’t find any that mentioned a power button/switch on the MS 2000.

Tangentially related anecdote but I’ve been using a Logitech K400 wireless keyboard/touchpad since Feb 2017 and it’s still on the original batteries. Granted, I use it very infrequently (it’s on a laptop that’s one source for my television) and weeks go by where I don’t touch it and when I do, it’s brief periods of trackpad use. It has a mechanical sliding power switch that I never use.

In the Q&A for this product on Amazon, the following answer addresses your question directly:

The description says “…plug in the transceivers”. Does this mean there are two of them, one for the mouse and one for the Keyboard?

There is only one plug for both. Remember that there is no ON/OFF button/switch on the keyboard, which we did not know when we bought it.
