FWIW, you can still see these kinds of things in Taiwan also; old-line Kuomintang guys still want to use maps showing a Republic of China that includes Taiwan and Mongolia. You can still see these maps in some public buildings, schools, etc, even though the “retake the mainland” zealots are quite marginalized politically.
