Does there exist a hook for fastening a travel mug to the edge of a table?

A few months ago, I started taking a photography class at a local CC. Not having been in a college classroom for many years, I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive computing infrastructure, in this case including keyboard, oversized flatscreen monitor, and a tower, or whatever the kids call it these days, at each desk. (It’s all Apple hardware, so the “tower” doesn’t look like the old PC towers; it’s a cylindrical object maybe 12 inches high and maybe 8 or 10" in diameter.

The downside of all this gadgetry is that it’s apparently a rule there that you can’t put your coffee or other beverages your desk, lest you spill something on it. I might have pointed out that if corporate America had followed that same line of reasoning, the economy would screech to a stop, but I didn’t think of that at the time. So I have to put my cup or mug on the floor, which makes it awkward to reach for and oh-so-easy to knock over. Also, when empty or nearly so it becomes very top-heavy and easy to knock over.

So if I had a hook that I could clip onto the edge of the desk, and hang my mug from by the handle, that would work really great. Very occasionally I’ve seen similar hooks marketed to women to use with their handbags, but I suspect it’s something of a novelty item. Am I wrong here? Are these hooks commonly available and a standard item at department stores and drug chains, or do they have to be ordered online? (Note to self: Check Amazon!) I don’t have a problem using one that was intended for a women’s purse, but I’d just as soon have one that doesn’t look too feminine.

Like this?

I have seen a cup holder you can hand on a desk drawer but I don’t know where to get it. You may not be able to use them but there are cup holder with suctions cups that go on the desktop, and some mugs that allegedly can’t be knocked over. But maybe you can just put coffee into one of those beer caps instead.

Purse Hook

Something like that could certainly work, provided it can support more than a plastic single-use cup. Did I mention that the travel mug is essentially a miniature Thermos, made of metal throughout, and heavier than most?

Tripolar, that looks like another great idea, but only for desks that have drawers, but classroom desks rarely do.

At quilt retreats I’ve seen friends with these, to keep their beverage off the sewing table. It looks like they clamp on and are deep enough for a taller thermos.

And this one looks pretty deep:

Oh, hey now

Something here should work for me.

Thanks, all, for the link!

In the end I found an even simpler solution, by placing my camera bag on the table and hanging my travel mug from a couple straps that were built into the end of the bag. So strictly speaking the mug is off the table.
