I read one story on WTVG 13’s webpage and thought that it must be a hoax, it was so full of errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling. (I assume that they employ a spell-checker, since most of the spelling errors tend to substitute homonyms.) I started following links and it seems that it’s not just the one story-- all their reporting seems to be written by either 5th graders or drunken boobs.
Poor Betty Reynold’s mother comes off sounding like Molly Bloom in that last one, if, indeed, the “quoted” text is attributed to her-- it’s hard to say, since there’s only one quotation-mark, and possibly several quotes.
Frankly, I’m stunned. How do folks in Toledo tolerate this?
I do appreciate the honesty of the banner on the page which reads – “13 ACTION NEWS – IT’S JUST NOT RIGHT.”
(Still not as blunt as the quickly-altered slogan of our local Vancouver station, BCTV: “If It Matters In Your World, It’s News To Us.”)
Anyway-- is this level of editorial incompetence commonplace for a local U.S. TV news station’s webpage, or are Toledoans (Toledoites?) blessed with a unique specimen?
