Unless you carry your cell somewhere other than your pocket, I really can’t fathom why anyone would have it ring. I can’t even remember what my current ringtone is. I’ve never been embarrassed by it ringing at a time when it shouldn’t be. Anyone use the ringer on their phone?
ETA: crap, reread the few sentences, but not the title. Any passing mod want to fix the glaring grammatical error?
I does let my cell phone ring. It is in my purse, not my pocket … if it didn’t ring I would have no way of knowing someone was calling me.
I change it back and forth between ring and vibrate, depending on where I am and what I’m doing.
Mine does both (rings and vibrates) but it goes without saying that it’s on vibrate only when I’m at work or in a restaurant or somewhere like that.
My phone is on ring in a number of situations-- when it’s charging, when it’s hooked up to my computer, when it’s in a coat or jacket pocket where I wouldn’t feel vibrations, or if I’m not carrying it in a pocket. These all cover a good 60% of the day, so my phone is more likely to be on ring.
I turn off both ring and vibrate when I’m in class, leading a mentoring session, or in a movie. Vibrate can be audible, too.
Mine is almost always on both. I have a different ringtone for different people so I know what calls to ignore or which ones to pull over for when I’m driving. Sometimes I dont hear it so the vibrate feature really helps sometimes.
Mine is on ‘Beep Once.’ Vibrate is too loud.
Yeah, I guess vibrate is pretty loud, but it’s only really a problem for me if I’m at a concert or something where it’s really quiet. In that case, I just shut it or set it to silent. Right now I have a phone that does different vibe patterns for mail and phone calls (there are actually 3 different patterns you can program for various functions). I just wish the damn thing were smaller.
Mine is always on vibrate. It doesn’t vibrate loudly, and the only other thing I keep in the same pocket is a handkerchief, so there is nothing for it to rattle against. I love my family, but they all have these annoying, loud ringtones. Really, it’s only funny the first couple hundred times your cell plays the Benny Hill theme. My brother set my mom’s phone to a stupid ringtone, and she is unable to figure out how to set it back to a normal ring. They all came to my house for Thanksgiving. I nearly snapped.
I does keep my phone on ring because it’s not good to keep it in your pocket continuously and I need to know when someone calls.
It also vibrates when it rings so I can know if I’m in a loud environment. I do put it on silent if I’m in a museum or the opera. It doesn’t really embarrass me if it rings in a normal public place.
Can you expand on this? Does the phone overheat? Do you get leg cancer?
It’s on vibrate 95% of the time, because I have no wish to be like a colleague over in the next cubicle, whose ring tone is both loud and annoying. The only time I have it on ring is when I’m at home and leave it lying on my desk so I can walk around the house without it.
I have it on vibrate then ring - so if I don’t feel it vibrate, I can still get the call.
Perhaps Dreamy is male?
I does keep my phone turned completely off 99.5% of the time. The main reason I have one at all is for the occassional call to AAA when there’s a car problem. This would be why I have a $168 balance on my phone - and I’m only required to buy $20 of minutes every 90 days.
I was going to ask the same thing. Ever since I started carrying a cell phone more than 5 years ago, my phone has been in my pocket at least 10 hours a day. I haven’t had any problems. Yet.
I keep mine on vibrate almost all the time. It’s either in my pocket or clipped to my belt, so I’ll feel it when someone calls.
The only time I have it set to ring is when I’m home and I lay it down somewhere.
I have mine on ring if I am going to answer it. If I am not going to answer it - in a meeting, at the movies, engaged in a long conversation, don’t feel like talking on the phone, too busy…I just turn it off and let it go to voicemail. I have never set my phone to vibrate and simply don’t see the point…you want to know a call is coming in but no-one else should know…why? Are you going to pull the phone out whether it rang or not? If not why bother having it vibrate? If you are going to pull it out why not let it ring?
Vibrate always is turned on. I turn the ringer off when at a meeting or show or where the sound might be an annoyance to others.
There isn’t concrete proof that the fertility thing is true but keeping something that emits strong radio waves near one’s mommy or daddy parts (that seem prone to cancer anyway) doesn’t sit well with me. I’m typically not a quack like that. It just seems like a prudent decision.
Two reasons, I guess. The first is that my voice is hopefully less annoying to people than a ring. Even if it isn’t, with vibrate people get to hear my voice only to be annoyed with. When it rings they get to be annoyed by both my voice and the ring.
The second reason is for screening calls or getting voice mail. I want to know if my phone is ringing, but I don’t see the point in announcing it to other people. Maybe I got a text. Maybe I’m looking at it to check the time. Why have other people hear the ring if they don’t have to?
