Dog mauls family over sweater.

Dog Mauls Family After They Tried Dressing Him Up In A Sweater

No picture or description of the sweater so there’s no way of telling if the attack was justified.

Maybe he had been the subject of dress-up abuse by his former owners.

Of course, a properly raised pit bull/pit bull mix would never object to wearing a sweater.

The owners felt the need for a “Beware of Dog” sign on their fence. Should’ve followed their own advice.

“Beware of Dog” is a legal admission that your dog is dangerous.

If only dogs had a natural covering to keep them warm

Everyone in Brooklyn knows that New York pit bulls are sweet, but Jersey pit bulls are nasty.

If only people didn’t own short-haired breeds in cold regions. My Danes like the snow, but only because they can come inside and get warm after a few minutes.

I don’t think Florida is generally thought of as a cold region.

Our dog got a sweater for Christmas once. There was no active resistance to wearing it, but from her body language, we could tell she enjoyed having it on about as much as Ralphie enjoyed wearing the bunny suit in A Christmas Story.

Don’t blame the dog one bit; I’d attack someone who tried to put me in a Christmas sweater.

But on a serious note, though, I wonder if maybe to a dog, a foreign object like a sweater being put over its body feels threatening in a very claustrophobic or predatory way, like having your body engulfed by an amoeba, and triggers a powerful defense response.

I would never have my dog suffer the indignity of wearing a sweater. Even though she’s sweet and gentle-natured and probably would tolerate it.

Beware of Doug.

Ditto here. Damned if my pit bull would be caught dead outside in a sweater! (Actually, he seems quite unperturbed by cold temps. He begs to be let out and I have to shout after him even when it’s in the teens or lower here.)

You haven’t met too many people from Florida, have you?

Maybe it was struggling when they were trying to put it on? I know with my little dog when I have to put his much needed sweater/coat on its a struggle. Maybe with a dog prone to aggression or displaying dominance, it was seen as the person trying to display dominance of their own?

The family had had Scarface for “a few weeks”. So, rescue dog? Because he looked pretty well full size. I think you probably need to just about raise that kind of dog from puppy to be able to trust it.

I knew it was a pit bull, before I clicked the link.

Cue the pittapolgists.

I’ve clicked the link, and still don’t know it’s a pitbull, since the only photo I see is too blurry to tell, and there’s no other reason to believe it’s any particular breed.

Yes, the story says that he’s a pitbull, but to the media, “pitbull” is defined as “dog that attacks a human”. If a miniature poodle managed to succeed at mauling a human (they certainly try often enough), the resulting news story would describe it as a pitbull.

Here’s a side view. Found another side view.
