Yes. She knows our world revolves around her, so she takes advantage of it.
Another “it depends” here.
I have a Lab & a GSD. They are allowed up on the couch only by invitation. They are not allowed to just hop up there, and they aren’t allowed in the bedroom at all.
However, when I travel with them I get a room with 2 beds if I can, so I have one and they get one, and they know they don’t have to ask to get on their hotel bed
Dopers - We’re lettin’ everybody down. You know the rules. No dog or cat threads without pictures!
Yes absolutely.
I spent New Year’s Eve sitting on the sofa with one dog next to me, head in my lap, second dog behind her with his head on Dog #1’s hind end, fire in the fireplace, Live from Lincoln Center on TV… could see local fireworks from my living room window… Ahhhhh…
And the two dogs sleep with me, too. Sometimes in the evening, I’ll look around and won’t see them, and they will have gone off to bed on their own.
My method for dealing with dog hair (although in my house, cat hair is more of a problem with two cats), I have several layers of decorative throws on my sofa. Those things are everywhere now, very pretty, and quite inexpensive. If too much fur builds up on one layer, I peel it off and throw it in the washer and there’s another washable/removable layer underneath.
I’ve always had dogs and they’ve been allowed on the furniture. About fifteen years ago I got a puppy and was determined that she was not going to be allowed on the furniture. She would have her bed and would sleep there. I got her home and it took about 20 minutes for me to invite her up on the couch for a snuggle. She was soooo cute and I just wanted to cuddle her.
A few years later I got another dog and decided that he could be on the furniture, but not on the bed. So I gave him his dog bed and told him that was where he could sleep. Lasted three nights before he snuck up on the bed and I realized I was going to lose that battle too. I just don’t care enough to fight it.
Fast forward to today… one dog on the couch, one dog on the chair and one dog on her dog bed. Tonight, there will be three big dogs on the bed with me.
Silly OP. As if we had a CHOICE.
Benji’s adorable!
Here’s my gang:
Back row: Nick, Dixie, Kharma. In front, Bunny, Cricket & Sammy.
I am clearly outnumbered.
Anywhere she wants. I keep bedsheets over the couches to keep them relatively protected from mud and hair.
What a beautiful pack of dogs! How did you get them to stay still long enough for that photo?
They are not allowed on the couch, chair, or my bed. But the kids do let them up on their beds at night.
3: people whose pets live outside and never come in.
I have an outside dog who never comes in; so my answer is no, she doesn’t sit on the furniture.
Aw, I’d love to have a whole pack of dogs.
My dog’s allowed on the sofa except at meal times, which she seems to understand. It doesn’t seem to cause any problems with her respecting mah authoriteh, and it’s nice having her next to me as I work during the day.
Thank you! They are all trained… to a point, the 2 Gordon Setters the best. But I helped the photo along by >whispers< Tying them together to the fence. See the roll of thin ribbon on the cinder block, and the pair of scissors?
Yeah. It’s like that.
Believe me, if mine weren’t inside and swaddled in blankets she’d be picked up and carried away by a vulture.
Eggzackly!!
I kind of wish I hadn’t started allowing them on the furniture, but I did and here we are. And I do love the beagle snuggies.
Wht beauties Kayaker! Especially the Shepherd, just gorgeous!
Heck, yeah, they are allowed on the furniture. They sleep with me, too.
Such beautiful dogs in this thread!
Bailey – my 40lb hound mix – is definitely allowed on the furniture, as evidenced by this picture. I only really have a couch and a bed, and she’s allowed on both. I guess in theory she could try to get on the dining room chairs, but she never has (and wouldn’t be allowed). She also has a dog bed in the living room. The only rule is that rawhides are not allowed on the couch: food wouldn’t be allowed on the couch (or the bed), either, but that’s never been an issue. I rarely have people over, but when I do she has no problem staying off the couch. She sheds, but nothing that a lint roller doesn’t fix.
