The dog is permitted on the couch, on the bed, and in the bed. All the better for snugglies, and she’s part of the family. (We’re childless, so she makes us a family.) We sit on the couch, and she’s there with us, in the middle. She’s under the covers in bed at night with us, too. It’s cosy.
But she is small and has a bath every month, so the ick factor is minimal for me.

Of course.
I always keep my dog clean though. She stops so I can wipe her feet off at the door and she showers with me every couple of weeks - keeps her whites whiter.
That reminds me: I keep a packet of doggy bath wipes in the basement, and I always wipe Bailey down after we’ve been out. So it’s not like she’s bringing mud and stuff into the house. We come and go through the garage, and before we leave I make sure the door to/from the basement is closed so that she can’t run up the stairs and into the living room until she’s been cleaned off. She hates it, but she knows that I have to remove the dog park slobber and dust before she’s allowed in the rest of the house (the basement is empty except for a big rug, so no worries about dirt down there). Then every month or two I have Dogtopia give her a bath while she’s there for daycare.
Ha! We not only let her on the furniture, she’s >< this close to having her own plate at the table.

She’s got a way of wrapping people around her little dewclaw, that’s for sure.
