Good on you.
I still think it’s a waste of money.
Good on you.
I still think it’s a waste of money.
I’m just waiting for you to say COSMETIC canine clothing, just don’t do it! Then I’ll agree wholeheartedly. But when you bash me for caring for my dog when she wore a functional coat, I’ll go to insulting your intelligence, because there is no possible way an intelligent person can’t see that a small dog with short hair does in fact NEED clothes for protection to the elements.
Let me show you some links to the two short-haired small dog breeds i mentioned.
minpin Miniature Pinscher - Wikipedia
italian greyhound Italian Greyhound - Wikipedia
and you tell me they don’t need a coat for protection from the cold.
The coat was used to keep her inner core warm for when enters the cold weather. It’s called layering, something I do when it’s freezing outside with an inner coat and a thick outer jacket. Obviously her fur would keep her somewhat warm from the elements, but it’s a thin layer, you get better protection from the layering effect. My dog used to do shit/piss runs in the backyard without all the hoopla of wearing a jacket and booties. 5minutes tops before she’d start heading for the door and wanting to go inside. The fact that you adamantly think all dogs shouldn’t wear clothes period is inane.
Get over it.
get over what? the fact you are a mental deficient that can’t comprehend body mass to surface area ratio of heat dissipation? Why the fuck do you think we bundle up babies in cold temperatures? They can’t withstand cold temperatures like adults can. Once you can grasp that, I’ll get over it.
Babies are babies, dogs are dogs. One is more important than the other, just like how starving people are more important than dogs, too. And your habit of making inaccurate moral comparisons just proves that you’re probably the mental deficient in this case.
On another tack: Babies come in one type, dogs in many types. You can’t choose a baby that’s suitable for where you live, but can choose a dog that is. Why don’t you buy a dog that is acclimated to the climate where you live? Seems like you’re the speciesist brute here, forcing a dog to live in weather it’s not accustomed to. Why be part of the problem instead of the solution?
What’s more, I had a dachsund that was about as shorthaired as the dog in the first link you provided above, stomach totally bald. He went out in Chicago weathers when I lived there. He didn’t freeze to death even though I wasn’t stupid enough to waste my money on a sweater for him. Imagine that…
seriously there is no arguing with you, you can’t even understand simple things. I bet you didn’t even walk your daschund more than 5minutes in cold Chicago weather.
I’m not trying to make moral comparisons with the baby, i’m saying the size of a baby is small, surface area is rather big, similar to that of a small dog. I know a dog is a dog, my dog meant more to me than it will to you. The fact you plainly want to ignore the fact that any small breed with short hair shouldn’t in fact wear clothes in frigid weather is beyond me. Then you want to portray me as a brute when in fact it’s the opposite and i have compassion enough to bundle up my small dog.
Choosing my dog breed was based on what I think I could handle behaviour wise, not what the dog can handle weather-wise. People that live in privilege have the opportunity to make these choices, and I’m one of the lucky ones.
Seriously get off your high horse and understand that the clothes that my dog wore were FUNCTIONAL not fucking cosmetic. Can you understand that and leave it at that?
seriously there is no arguing with you
Wow, what an astute observation! So, then, why do you continue arguing with me?
*I bet you didn’t even walk your daschund more than 5minutes in cold Chicago weather *
20-25 minutes every single night. No stupid little sweater. He was perfectly fine.
Then you want to portray me as a brute when in fact it’s the opposite and i have compassion enough to bundle up my small dog
Right, you’re compassionate. That’s why you selfishly chose a dog based on what would be best for YOU not what would be best for your pet, right? That’s what you said yourself right here:
**Choosing my dog breed was based on what I think I could handle behaviour wise, not what the dog can handle weather-wise **
Can you understand that and leave it at that?
Honestly, I could really give two shits if the clothes your dogs wears are cosmetic or because you decided they would be cute…I mean…necessary, it’s still stupid. You’re the one who keeps bellowing on about it. I was ready to ignore you completely until you flipped out like a kook and became abusive. You brought my replies on yourself, bud.
We can go on if you’d like. Doesn’t matter to me…
I’ll go all night. You pretty much decimated your OP by ceding all the other “clothes” you find acceptable. I want that last inch you will not give me. I will go on until I get that inch.
You agree booties for working dogs, you agreed medals for courageous dogs, you agreed to functional wear, yet you can’t get off your high horse and just type that my dog wearing her coat belongs to the functional wear category. I won the argument ages ago when u ceded your stance by a country mile.
End debate. I just want you to admit that my dog’s coat was for function. And get my last inch of your pathetic pit attempt.
Wow, you won an online debate about dogs wearing clothing. Not only that, your victory is self-proclaimed. Go buy yourself a trophy, why don’t you?
IIRC, I also said that awarding dogs medals was stupid, too. And it is. WTF are they going to do with a medal? They don’t even know what a medal is.
There’s no high-horse to get off of, I’m afraid. Dogs wearing clothing is stupid. If you can’t accept that I, right or wrong, feel that way then you’re just going to drive yourself crazy, not me, as I obviously wont be changing my stance on this matter any time soon.
Dogs wearing clothes=dumb.
Buy a dog appropriate for when you live.
I just want you to admit that my dog’s coat was for function
Don’t hold your breath.
Dogs wearing clothes=dumb.
you should just type it
Dogs wearing clothes for cosmetic purposes = dumb
this thread pretty much shows you ceded all other functional points. Just type it and end it. Then I’ll buy my trophy.
Allow me to quote myself:
“Don’t hold your breath.”
you do know i don’t need you to actually type those specific words to get a trophy, you have already typed a concession of great proportions. I guess getting the country mile is good enough I’ll let you have that measly inch that you so desperately cling to.
All the more indication that arguing online is useless. It doesn’t matter how badly someone has lost. They will still continue to fight.
Fighting ignorance is impossible. It’s too stupid to know it’s been beaten.
Do we have to start citing to get him to concede?
he’ll say it’s all a joke.
we all lose!!! because we had the audacity to continue to beat the dead horse.

am i right or am i wrong?
Dogs wearing clothing is stupid. I’m particularly stubborn on this point.
Apparently.
I’m a self-hating dog dresser. I always swore that I would never put clothing on my dog. But she’s tiny (about 4 lbs) and shivers perceptibly when it’s too cold out for her. So, she gets a sweater. I’m knitting her one right now. Where do I sign up for spinsterhood again?
I’m also pro-dog-Halloween costumes, as a general rule. This year she didn’t need to wear anything for her costume, though, as she went as Toto.
I can’t even get particularly worked up about someone who is so blinkered as to think that climate-appropriateness should be the primary concern in choosing what dog is right for you.
i’ll beat the dead horse too.
You have made your broad general statement of all dogs wearing any clothes a dumb statement you conceded in numerous times. Just plainly stated your point of view is “dogs wearing cosmetic clothes is stupid”. You’ve admitted clearly throughout this thread. Again, I’ll just make sure people read it over and over that your thoughts which you cannot type yourself is:
“dogs wearing clothes for cosmetic purposes = stupid”
I’ll continue to type this out over and over as long as you type your retarded general statement dogs wearing clothing is stupid. I’ll be stubborn too.
And let me just add, I agree cosmetic clothes are stupid too, functional clothing is not. My dog looked cute without clothes, she pretty much never wore clothes at home, she didn’t even wear her collar in the later parts of her life. She looked cute with a ball chain necklace, she looked cute like a monkey in diapers when she wasn’t spayed and had the “maxipad” diaper on. I still miss her company and exuberance. Most especially I miss her smell. It’s almost been a whole year now and as pathetic as it seems that i cared about her, i doubt i’ll get another dog that’s not a minpin. That breed is close to my heart because of one dog.

well, i do use colored claw caps on mine, right now she has hot pink and purple ones on. Declawing is cruel and this way she can not damage the furniture. And before anybody says anything yes we did try her with a scratching post, she hated it even with catnip on it and refused to stop scratching the sofa. Claw caps prevent damage to the furniture.
God help me, that was hilarious.
