Dogs wearing clothing...just don't do it!

Fine, I’ll be a gentleman:

It is not stupid for dogs to wear clothing that is practical.

Let me qualify that by saying, though, that the above sentence is merely a tatemae and that my honne http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honne_and_tatemae is still that dogs wearing clothing is stupid. Worried about canine hypothermia? Buy a dog suited the climate you live in or take it out for brief, energetic walks that include alot of running.

Or be stupid and buy a sweater for your pet.

Is there something wrong with my monitor or is the first dog in that link purple?

I will beat the dead horse further when you add a bullshit explanation of “tatemae and honne” as a footnote.

here we go

holy shit that dog’s got credentials and WTF it’s wearing something, OMFG CALL 9-1-1, wait, they’ll probably send this dog to your location to set you straight. Is it a functional vest? You dont need a vest to make people know it’s a working dog. HOLY SHIT TAKE THAT VEST OFF IT’S STUPID!!!

http://www.olive-drab.com/od_wardogs_famous_smoky.php

shit that dog’s got a fucking parachute on. HOLY SHIT it’s flying. Shit, the 2nd link shows it wearing clothes. FUCK!!! it was a military dog, a dog they found and became a mascot only to aid in the war effort in tangible ways other than morale boosting. SHIT TAKE THOSE CLOTHES OFF THAT FUCKING MANGY MUTT!!!

wow, look at all those medals it got. damn you dog stop wearing fucking clothes with medals all over it. It would be stupid if we didn’t acknowledge this dog’s effort/bravery towards the effort but no we can’t have that. YOU CAN’T BE RECOGNIZED FOR YOUR BRAVERY YOU ARE JUST A DOG!!!TAKE THAT SHIT OFF OMFG IT’S STUPID!!!

the color looks purple but it’s called blue. They come in different colors like the mixed white and grey. I believe Minpins can come in the blue variety but aren’t part of the breed standard. And no, it wasn’t dyed for that color, it’s a natural color.

This is the reason why I stubbornly wont give you your last inch: because your stupid sarcasm annoys the hell out of me.

It’s not that you can’t be recognized for your bravery if you’re a dog, but that you shouldn’t…on the grounds that dogs don’t understand bravery, therefore don’t have any of it, and only do what they’ve been trained to do.

I’ve had my “rant about the world” already. I’m content. Dogs wearing clothing is bullshit stupid.

You can go on in this thread if you want, I don’t care.

DOGS WEARING CLOTHING IS STUPID!!!

The only person who gets to dress her Corgi like a Menorah is the Queen. And she doesn’t because she’s Church of England and it wouldn’t be proper.

My stupid sarcasm may be annoying but you yourself are annoying as hell. You act like you are being “gentleman” in post #81 but it’s pretty much the same fucking veiled insult. Like seriously what the hell would you expect me to do, roll over and say all is nice when you pretty much fucking insulted me in a “backhanded compliment” kind of way.

Dogs that wear clothes are not stupid, kidneyfailure is stupid. just change your name to brainfailure and I’ll change mine to Bmadmore.

yes!!! Agree 100%!

My stupid sarcasm may be annoying but you yourself are annoying as hell

I guess we cancel each other out…

*but it’s pretty much the same fucking veiled insult *

You brought it on yourself. You were the first one to use inappropriate language and ad hominems, I was being cordial, you flipped out. Look in the mirror if you want someone to blame. PS- we’re not in the Pit anymore.

*Like seriously what the hell would you expect me to do, roll over and say all is nice when you pretty much fucking insulted me in a “backhanded compliment” kind of way *

Again, you threw the first punch. Should I not have responded in kind? Also, I didn’t insult you in post 81 (81, right?). All I did was say what you wanted me to say with a note tacked on at the end explaining that that wasn’t how I really felt. I think dogs wearing clothing is stupid, I wont change that opinion just because you don’t like it or disagree.

Dogs wearing clothing is stupid.

you threw the “first punch” moron. look at post 19 and the snark level from that. And better yet you started the whole damned thread. Have your fucking retarded opinion, just makes you all that more fucking retarded. Who the fuck cares if it’s not in the Pit anymore, have the Mods lock this shit so they can end your pathetic attempt to reiterate your stupidity by saying dumb shit like dogs shouldn’t wear clothes. Continue to make yourself look like a retard and me as the hapless fuck that continues to get in your shit. please reply, I beg of you.

*you started the whole damned thread *

You’re right, I did. I had my “rant about the world,” in this case dogs wearing clothing, and I’m happy I did. I don’t regret starting this thread. Dogs wearing clothing is a stupid phenomenon. I stand by that.

Have your fucking retarded opinion

Thanks for your permission. I’d have my retarded opinion either way, but it’s nice to know you’ll allow me to do so.

just makes you all that more fucking retarded

BFD about what you think.

*Continue to make yourself look like a retard *

Ok, I will…

and me as the hapless fuck that continues to get in your shit

You’re playing that part rather well, I must say. Maybe not “gets in [my] shit,” but more like “flips out for no reason.”

please reply, I beg of you

Your wish is granted!

BTW, you were the one who made it personal, bud. And I quote:

“seriously are you that fucking stupid…GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL”

read post 19 carefully, you pretty much call me a fucking retard in your veiled insult kinda way and you insinuate that my dog’s clothes were for me to act like an effeminate dog owner. seriously, read it and tell me how I’m supposed to read that post without any kind of veiled insult to my keeping care of my dog.

Seeing as how I’m the one who wrote the post in question, I should know that it wasn’t meant to insult you at all, but to point out what I felt (and do feel) were valid points. I’ll deconstruct said quote part by part if you’d like:

Alright, I’ll be serious here for a second:

Meaning that most of this thread was meant in jest, which I’ve pointed out many times. You certainly ruined that, though. Kudos!

Keep her safe from what???

Valid question, isn’t it? Wasn’t meant to be snide or snarky, just curious about why you thought your dog would just drop dead from canine hypothermia if you took it outside for even a 30-minute walk.

*Are you taking her out, soaking wet, in subzero weather every single night for upwards of an hour or two? *

Meaning that if that were the case I’d understand why you’d be so worried about your dog freezing to death. Assuming that you’re NOT doing that, though, I’m sure your dog would be fine even as a shorthair and even after an extended walk. The cite above that someone posted for “canine hypothermia” even said that dogs experiencing “mild to moderate” CH invariably make full recoveries. I’m no vet, but I assume that taking your dog out even in Chicago winters would give it mild CH at most, but most likely not even that. Therefore, I conclude that the chances of a dog needing to wear clothing is most likely nothing. Continue to dress your dog up, though, if you’d like. I’ll continue to think it’s a stupid idea. Live and let live, huh?

*I mean, come on, your dog might shiver a little, but take her out to do her business and then bring her back in to your warm house and she’ll be fine *

Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Shit, I’ve had shorthaired dogs of my own who never wore sweaters during their winter walks and everything was fine. How come yours is supposedly weaker than mine, huh??

I’d like this question answered

*I’m pretty sure that most of these dogs wearing sweaters only do so because their owners dress them up due to the “cuteness factor.” *

Ok, I see the potential for misunderstanding here, but in no way was this comment directed at you personally (unlike your habit of calling me “dense,” “retarded,” and the like). So, you needn’t take offense to it.

Anyway, happy to shed some light on a post you misunderstood!

Oh, and dogs wearing clothing is a stupid phenomenon.

If my dog wanted to head home that’s what we’d do, why the fuck do you care if my dog wears a functional coat? You may be all right with your dog shivering a little bit, but I didn’t want my dog to be hindered for a fun walk by being cold to the point she would head home for the sole reason for being cold. do you understand that? I know for a fact my dog coulda handle the cold better as she aged and got fatter, but when she was a pup she was a twig, she actually looked like an Italian greyhound in stature. Did you ever see an Italian greyhound before? Seriously, even if it’s not frigid, when it’s a brisk cool day they shiver like it’s -40C. Are that fucking dense not to understand that seeing my dog shiver isn’t something I would want to inflict on my dog even if my dog could handle it? Is it that I cared more about my dog than you do yours? perhaps, but unlikely. They are pets for that reason, we care about them.

You don’t see a problem with that drenching my dog comment at all? It’s pure snark, like I’m some sort of fucking retard that takes my dog out at the most inopportune time as to give it exercise after a bath. You veiled insults are evident yet you choose to pass them off as if they’re questions of merit and fact. How that question isn’t an insult to you is beyond me.

Dogs wearing clothes isnt’ a stupid phenomenon. Dogs wearing clothes to look cute is. Seriously if you can’t see that I agree with you at that point and you can’t fucking agree to that and not put some sort of lame fucking disclaimer you are a fucking retard.

why the fuck do you care if my dog wears a functional coat?

I don’t, hence post #67 wherein I said that I didn’t “give two shits” what your dog wore. This thread isn’t about you…it doesn’t say “bmada dressing his/her dog in clothing is stupid,” just my feeling about the phenomenon itself…which I think is stupid. I think I’ve said more than a few times in here that you can do whatever you want with your dog. OTOH, I’ll say what I want about dogs wearing clothing.

Is it that I cared more about my dog than you do yours?

No, it’s just that I’d see my dog shiver a bit, we’d run, he’d stop shivering, we’d go home after a while, and he’d be no worse for the wear as far as I could tell so I didn’t worry about it and didn’t think he’d need a coat.

You don’t see a problem with that drenching my dog comment at all?

No, I don’t. It was an exaggerated comment to show how much it would take for cold weather to really do your dog any lasting harm and to point out that if you weren’t doing something like that (which I’m sure you weren’t, as you’re obviously quite passionate about your dog) you wouldn’t have much to worry about, therefore a sweater wouldn’t be needed.

It’s pure snark

Think what you’d like, but I’m the one who wrote it and I know it wasn’t meant that way.

like I’m some sort of fucking retard that takes my dog out at the most inopportune time as to give it exercise after a bath

I apologize if you misunderstood. That wasn’t the intention at all.

How that question isn’t an insult to you is beyond me

Explained above.

Seriously if you can’t see that I agree with you at that point and you can’t fucking agree to that and not put some sort of lame fucking disclaimer you are a fucking retard

I understand that we both agree that dogs wearing cosmetic clothing is stupid and I acknowledge that. I don’t feel, however, that dogs “need” to wear clothing in cold weather. I just don’t. I’ve seen no evidence to lead me to believe so, so I made a decision about my opinion on the matter. Until I see something that convinces me otherwise I’ll continue to think that dogs wearing clothing (including in cold weather) is unnecessary. You calling me “retard,” however, isn’t going to change my mind, sorry.

As for the disclaimer, I said:

It is not stupid for dogs to wear clothing that is practical

However, as I feel that there really is no great need for dogs to wear clothing (even the so-called “practical” kind) I tacked on a disclaimer at the end clarifying my position. I said it to appease you but I didn’t really mean it and I wanted to make sure everyone understood that. How come you can’t figure that out?

So… because the dog will live through the illness, we shouldn’t bother preventing it in the first place? Brilliant.

No, genius. There are other ways to prevent it than buying your pet a sweater.

I’m game, let’s hear them. But don’t tell me to have a different breed of dog than I already do, please - I haven’t quite gotten my transmutation skills to that level yet.

Take your dog for a jog. Circulation and increased heart rate raise body temperature. Also, it’s good for you, too

Take your dog for a few short, energetic walks a day instead of one long one.

Take your dog outside to take care of business, play with it inside your warm house for exercise.

Three simple ones that have always worked for me…

Ahh yes, the good old “if it works for me, it must work for everyone” mentality.
