All of those things are fine, and I might chose to do some of them, but can you see that maybe just buying a sweater is simpler and easier to fit into my dog’s routine if we don’t usually do those things?
And when your dog cannot go outside in the cold because it’s so cold that his arthritic hips ache the minute you open the door, then what?
Your experience isn’t universal. You? Are also a moron.
Take your dog for a jog. Circulation and increased heart rate raise body temperature. Also, it’s good for you, too
This we do… except in winter when the sidewalks are covered in ice and roadsalt it’s dangerous for all of us. We go on long snowshoe hikes on the weekends though.
Take your dog for a few short, energetic walks a day instead of one long one.
For those of us who are employed during the day, this is not possible.
Take your dog outside to take care of business, play with it inside your warm house for exercise.
For those of us with a dog larger than a boot, this is absurd. See: “bull in China shop” for an idea of what would happen if we played with a our wolfhound indoors.
Luckily our dog is woolly and is fine up until the -30s celcius. Our neighbor with the greyhound, on the other hand, puts a coat on him.
I know for a fact my dog coulda handle the cold better as she aged and got fatter, but when she was a pup she was a twig, she actually looked like an Italian greyhound in stature. Did you ever see an Italian greyhound before? Seriously, even if it’s not frigid, when it’s a brisk cool day they shiver like it’s -40C
I like how that’s not even addressed in the response that was well laid out to all the other queries. I think that breed is probably the most fragile breed out there that has fur. The whippet, greyhound and Italian greyhound are all slender and sleek with very little body fat.
I don’t dress mine up to be cute. I do think it’s kind of dumb.
My Tibetan Terrier has sensitive skin, and she wears boots in cold weather when there is salt down. If she doesn’t, she is in pain, limping, with raw foot pads.
All my dogs seem to appreciate their horse-style coats in cold weather, as well. My Shepherd mix stares at his coat until I put it on him when it’s chilly.
Ok, here you all go:
It is NOT stupid for dogs to wear practical clothing.
Ok? Now that I’ve admitted being wrong, I should hope none of you will gloat about it…it’s my birthday today, cut me some slack.
