Well, our second dog has picked up this vile habit-i heard her trying to get the lid up last night! A few bangs-and then…the slurping sound…this drives me crazy! We have two dogs-and the first one started doing it a year ago. Now, it appears, the evil vice has been learned by the second one. How to cure this? We’ve tried putting a brick on the seat-they seem to knock it off easily! Any way to break them of this vile, disgusting habit? :eek:
The toilet is our cats’ “fountain of choice”, if you will. Doesn’t gross me out in the slightest. In fact, as long as I don’t have to worry that I forgot to water them, I prefer it to the little bowl on the floor.
I’ve had cats prefer the toilet too. I think it’s cooler? From the porcelain?
I’m just careful not to kiss them afterwards.
Babies R Us has nifty little clips that attach to the toile seat & bowl to keep toddlers from opening the toilet up. If it’ll keep a kid out, it may well keep a goggie out, too.
Yes, put a cat litter box nearby. Make sure it’s been ‘used’. They’ll go for the cat poop. Dogs like cat poop.
If that doesn’t work spray the seat of the toilet with capsaicin. That’ll keep him away, guaranteed. Try it!
I also have a “mixer” on my bathtub. The little reservoir holds enough water to act like a little fountain for them. They LOVE it! One of my cats sits in a puddle while she drinks out of it.
Capsaisin? Really? So if ralph has a red, burning ass, then the dog’s won’t drink from the toilet? 
Our cats like to play with the toilet water. I’m not too bothered by it since they also, you know, lick each other’s asses.
Anyway, we just keep the bathroom door closed. The litter box is in another room so problem solved.
That would keep MY butt off the toilet seat too. :eek:

Actually drinking out of the toilet isn’t that bad. I have heard (but no cite, sorry) that less germs can be found in household toilets than in home kitchens.
It’s the poopsicles that gross me out … my female hound loves those and yesterday she was caught trying to bring one in the house. That girl’s muzzled now when she goes out … can hardly wait for the weather to warm up …
