Dollhouse 10/23

I concur. Also I want to see her talk about eating crisps.

Where else could she go? The cover story is that the doucheback left the country with her. Still, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, that is just Whedon’s rationale.

The main reason she stayed was Victor.

Something that hasn’t been pointed out yet is that probably Victor got entered in the Dollhouse against his will, too.

What makes you think so?

Yes, and then there’s the part where the acid dissolves the pipes.

I’d not thought of it, but it would kind of make sense. When he had that combat flashback and just keeled over, it was pretty much how tv shows always portray PTSD. If he had it really bad, I could see him winding up in an institution somewhere like Pria did and winding up as an involuntary Doll in the same way. It’s an interesting suggestion, anyway.

It is.

Though I think I saw Sierra/Priya’s face during his flashback. Did I imagine that? I guess I was assuming it was a flashback to an engagement.

“Do what you oughta, add acid to water.”

Well, we know that in ten years, Topher will have gotten a really good lesson about consequences.

Unfortunately, so wll the rest of the world.

Blasphemy! DeWitt is stunning, long hair, short hair, or stark freaking bald. (And good Ford, I could listen to her read the phone book.)

Well, yeah. Am I the only one whose heart broke at (spoilers for Epitaph One)

Why didn’t I think of that? Did I think of that?

Dewitt is starting on her lesson too.

I really wish the show would hurry up and get to those consequences, as it seems like Dollhouse’s days are numbered.

I fear that, like with Firefly (which was undoubtedly a much better show), we’ll only be able to see the build-up and not the payoff for the series… Bring on Epitaph Two+!

Oh, no. I got teary-eyed.

He was so broken. And then “I know what I know. I know what I know.” Trying to find comfort in his (now shattered) belief that his smarts can do anything and protect him from anything. The fact that he started out as a cocky amoral know-it-all makes his fall that much harder. (I also can’t imagine trying to live with the guilt that I had been instrumental in destroying the world.)

I thought that when Priya asked Topher to make her forget that day, she meant she wanted to have her original backup (her real personality) reloaded, so that she’d be herself minus the memories of what had transpired that day. Because I couldn’t see why she’d accept going back to the dollhouse. So I thought that he tricked her, and then secretly reimplanted the sierra image.

But I guess that doesn’t make sense narratively - she volunteered to become a doll again for no good reason.

I think that she did it for Victor, to stay with him. It’s also possible that, off-screen, Boyd explained the situation–namely that, should she go free, it’s likely that Rossum would either take her back or kill her. If she comes back now, then she’s relatively safe; she has Boyd and Topher theoretically looking out for her (as well as DeWitt, though she wouldn’t know that).

There’s also the fact that if she left now, it would all have been for nothing and she would be worse off than she had been before. However, if she continues through with the contract, then she is set for life and doesn’t have to remember anything she did all 5 years of her service.

Did Priya get a “contract”? She was basically a crazy girl in a mental ward. Maybe her contract was simply that she woudl be uncrazified by the end of the contract.

Which leads to this question: how did Topher make Priya come back?
All they had on file for her was a brain scan of when she was so messed up with drugs she acted like a dellusional schizophrenic. So when they reimplanted that scan back into her, wouldn’t the brain activity of the time also come back?
Or are we to believe that they can take that stuff out? “Cure” her.
If that’s the case, then instead of curing her, or even attempting to cure her, they kidnapped her and forced her to work for The Dollhouse for at least a year without her consent. Fun times.
And, if they have the technology to cure something as serious as, well, all mental disorders…what the fuck are they doing as a glorified escort service? Do you know how many hundreds of billions of dollars they can make on that technological use alone just by going legit?

I’m not sure what their original plan was (try to cure schizophrenia? there was something about her being a mental illness case that intrigued Topher). But in actual fact she wasn’t schizophrenic, and was only acting paranoid because of the drugs in her system and the fact that Nolan really was after her. It’s been a year, they’ve taken her off the psychotropics, so the cause of her mental illness has long sense been flushed out of her brain chemistry. However the imprinting works, I doubt it can replicate the existence of drugs in her system. Even if the electrical activity was recorded as being off-kilter, presumably it would naturally return to normal on its own once put back in a brain that wasn’t swimming in drugs.
