That. Is. Priceless. Thanks for posting it.
I wish we could declare the date of her death as “Dolly Parton Day”. “Nine-Two-Five” is oddly appropriate, and easy to remember.
We went to Dollyworld a few years ago, in hopes of seeing the replica of her birthplace. Oddly, the park was closed and weren’t able to see it.
All we have to do is switch August & September for that to work.
Arrrgh. My mistake. I was looking at the September calendar when reading of her death. I goofed that one.
It’s for Dolly Parton. Who could possibly object?
Tennessee already proclaimed January 19 to be Dolly Parton Day, in honor of her 80th birthday earlier this year. Though apparently Nashville already assigned it to August 5 back in 2019? Confusing.
But yeah, I’ve seen calls for recognizing September 25 as “9 to 5 Day”.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Dolly Parton produced Buffy right away, not taking an on-screen credit. She’s part of the reason that amazing show go on television.
I haven’t seen mentioned her work with American bald eagles, which I found admirable
Autocorrect appears to have not been your friend. That’s Leland (Lee) Sklar.
I’ve read so many stories about Dolly Parton the last couple of days and so I don’t have a cite for either of these things but I wanted to share them, because they’re kind of priceless.
The first one and I don’t remember where I read it is that one time Dolly Parton lost a Dolly Parton look alike contest to a drag queen. Isn’t that hilarious! And I’ll bet she loved it. Damn, I’d love to see a picture of the final of that.
The other thing that I don’t remember where I read it is that somebody asked her if she minded being called a dumb blonde. And she said no I don’t, because I know I’m not dumb and I’m also not a blonde!

(deleted, I’m not sure that’s the actual photo)
I just saw a clip where she was talking about previously being overweight. She said, “When I had to haul ass, I had to take two trips!”
I didn’t notice autocorrects mischief until after posting.
Lee plans to post more about Dolly and play songs that he worked on.
Everything I heard about him has been positive. He seems to be a very genuine guy, and treats everyone with respect.
I have since learned that, but it wasn’t her focus.
She was never overweight, but if you look at the full body photos from 1978, when she dressed as a Playboy bunny, you can see that her face was rounder and her waist somewhat fuller than later on. It was about that time that she was transitioning from pure country to crossover pop, and she started doing all the body work she later talked about.
I think Dolly Parton could have had a successful career concentrating on just one of her many talents: singer, songwriter, multi-instrumental musician, actress, comedian, storyteller, businesswoman, or all-around entertainer.
She was good enough at any one of them to make a name for herself. But put them all together, along with that enormous personality and charm, and you get something much rarer: a true superstar—a word that gets tossed around far too easily.
Most people get one lane. Dolly somehow built the whole highway.
