Dolores the Lunch Lady

Several years back, I recall an 800 number going around that one could dial to get Dolores the Lunch Lady reciting the cafeteria menu for the day. The only thing is, I can’t remember the company or any other details. A friend of mine contacted me today and asked if I could find the number anywhere.

Google is not helping. I turn to you, good people of the SDMB, for help.

Well, in what context did you learn of it?

Somebody at work said “Here, call this number, it’s funny.” I got nothin’ for you.

Does she say “rutabaga”?

If you’re talking about the ‘Simpson’s’ character, her name is Doris.

she’s also refered to as Lunch Lady Doris, not Doris the Lunch Lady, fwiw

Not a Simpson’s reference, and my friend is pretty convinced her name was Dolores. It was the cafeteria menu for a large, relatively well-known company, as I recall, and it was not supposed to be funny in any way.

I think I may never know. sigh

I remember who you are talking about, but don’t remember the name or number. As I recall, it was some small southern restaurant, and the owner would tape the menu du jour with an excess of enthusiam. I heard about it on the radio, and it probably spread across the nation due to that.

[pet peeve]See, some people read the OP.[/pet peeve]

As long as somebody has a dim recollection of it, I feel a little better. Thanks!

You mean the lady who did the recording for the USGS cafeteria?
Try this:

I got an e-mail from my friend with the number at the same time I opened this thread. Thanks, False_God!

Those are some pretty yummy looking menus! “Mashed potatas & gravy” almost every day! Yum!

I find this post kid of funny due to the name of the poster the OP is thanking.

I’m now tempted to say “thanks, False God!” whenever something positive happens.

Aw, I do what I can for all the little people out there. Not so much false, just not credulous - like believing in the postman…
