Domainzero: comments?

I just registered a domain with domainzero.com. I can handle the spam in my (dummy*) email, but does anybody else have any praises or curses to sing?

Yes, I know how amateurish and cheesy virtual domain hosting is, but I’m as tighfisted as an, uh, Irishman, and from what I can tell, they’re at nowhere near the special level of hell reserved for namezero.com.

*[sub]Former xoom user, before they stuck you with that fuckin adframe. I know the drill.[/sub]

First off, I have to admit I love namezero.
They did what they said, give me a free domainname, and they do it by adding a menubar. But it’s a smaller menubar than most banner ads or the menubars for free web sites. And it’s actually useful, with a search and email function that are now associated with me.

On the other hand, I’m glad to hear Domainzero is better.
I’ll be going there soon, based on your tip, but why don’t you elaborate on the differences you’ve found.

Soitenly:

Namezero owns the domain, not you. They are under no obligation to let you keep the domain if someone else comes along and offers to pay a higher price for it. Plus, they stick that banner on your page. Yeah, it’s easy to kill with the proper scripts, but that’s a violation of their TOS and will get you terminated. You’re SOL.

With Domainzero, you apparently own the domain name. All they ask in return is that you consent to being spammed by a selection of e-business shysters, which is much easier to work around. It’s the same ad strategy that xoom used to use before they put that gawdawful frame on every page. They also give you unlimited email forwarding, subdomain forwarding, etc… it all seems pretty cool. I’m still waiting for my ISP proxy to ditch the cached copy of the ICANN registry so I can check it out, but I’m soliciting advice in in the meantime.
