Domo Arigato - songs about robots and such

How many songs can you name about robots, androids, mechanical men, etc?

Here’s a start:

  1. “Mr. Roboto” - Styx
  2. “Automatic Man” - Michael Sembello
  3. “Yours Truly, 2095” - Electric Light Orchestra
  4. “The Robots” - Kraftwerk
  5. “I, Robot” - The Alan Parsons Project

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots parts 1 &2 - The Flaming Lips

This whole album could be considered some kind of rock opera based on the battle between Yoshimi (she’s a blackbelt in karate), and the Evil Robots.

From Pinky, Elmira and the Brain:

Roberto the great big robot
We love him a whole lot
How he works we know not
But he is really big

Wasn’t there a song called “Freakazoid Robot”? I am almost sure of it.

Also, that Flaming Lips Album is one of the best around, a great addition to any music library.

“More Human than Human” by White Zombie.

Down in the Park - by Gary Numan (and Foo Fighters)
My Girlfriend Is A Robot - The Hanson Brothers
Bob Was A Robot - Red Dress

The band Servotron has an entire album dedicated to Robots and Christmas, and three other songs all dealing with robots. Devo-esque techno music and really fun stuff. Man or Astroman also has many songs dealing with robots. They’re a techno/surf band, and really good stuff.

Psychotron by Megadeath.

Jon Bon Jovi once did a song entitled R2-D2 We wish you a Merry Christmas for some obscure Star Wars holiday album. I heard it a few years ago on the Stern radio show, it is even more embarrasing than the title indicates.

The Body Electric by Rush.
Star Fleet by Brain May & Friends.

And I myself, am featured (my handle, at least) on Kilroy Was Here.

Mess with me not.

The Stranglers: Hey (Rise of the Robots)

Somebody did a novelty song called “Marvin I Love You” about Marvin the Paranoid Android from Douglass Adams. Don’t recall who did it, but Doctor Demento plays it a lot…Timmy

Rush also did Digital Man back in the day, which may or may not be about a robot (Could be about a cyborg). Yeah.

Ringo Starr had Gort from The Day The Earth Stood Still on the cover of one of his albums, but no robot songs IIRC.

“I’m a Mechanical Boy” (or something like that): from “H. R. Pufenstuf.”

“Stick It Out” and “Sy Borg” by Frank Zappa.

“The Terrible Secret of Space” by someone whose name escapes me.

They Might Be Giants - Robot Parade
Radiohead - Paranoid Android (admittedly, it’s not really ABOUT robots, it just references Marvin in the title)
Bad Religion - 21st Century Digital Boy

I Am A Machine – Meat Puppets
Monsters and Robots (album title only) – Buckethead
