not true. One of my hobbies has me going to Canada (Tilbury area of Ontario) once or twice a year. encountered a non-zero number of folks there who would be just fine if the PM was a guy like Trump.
I’ve been following Rob Balder for a while now via Erfworld. I didn’t know he had a comic before that.
A polite person will say “soory” as he stabs your kidney with a serrated knife.
So Don Cherry is now claiming that he wasn’t talking about immigrants at all. Well here’s the full rant, you make the call.
Don says that the “silent majority” agrees with him; that he stands by his comments but could have phrased it better; and is hurt that Ron MacLean apologised, but still considers him a friend.
Somewhere, the ghost of [del]Jimmy the Greek[/del] Marley is shaking his head, wailing “Don - learn by my example!”

Yeah, I think it’s totally clear he was actually talking about the Frenchies.

I’m sure he thought he’d be fine so long as he didn’t flip his pen in the air.
I absolutely remember that! Dave Hodge fired for stating his frustration about CBC turning off the Canadiens’ game as it was going into overtime in lieu of news programming.
{{sigh}} I googled Dave Hodge, who used to have a dark brown bowl cut.
Completely white-haired now.
{{sigh}}
And the “Bring Back Don” campaigns are starting with support from that feisty former mayor of Mississauga:
Former Mississauga mayor Hazel McCallion defends Don Cherry, says ‘he’s not a racist’
I don’t care if he’s a racist or not. He said a racist thing.
It’s odd how quickly people will defend racist bullshit by saying “Oh, but he’s not a racist.” Who cares? What matters in life is what you DO, not what you claim is in your heart.
Something like twenty people came out to voice support. He was given a chance to apologize and maybe should have taken it, or maybe not complained when Maclean did so on his behalf.
Look, he did do something for small town hockey and many charities. His gruff advice and surly opinions are dated and done. I liked him when I was a young (and very mediocre) hockey player. But it’s kind of crazy to associate bike-riding with communism? I think they should drop Coach’s Corner. The man is iconic and iconoclastic, but times have changed.
But non-zero is a very small number, not 46% of the freaking population. There’s a reason that Canada elected a very liberal politician for the second time in a row, against a very moderate conservative who could pass for a Democrat in the US.
Don Cherry and Tucker Carlson - mismatch made in heaven!
“With Don Cherry’s Fox News appearance, a national reckoning descends into embarrassing farce”
I kind of wish I had seen that…
It reminds me of Jimmy the Greek who made comments about black people being natural athletes because they were “bred to be that way”. As if he was talking about German Shepherds and not people. To his credit he acknowledged what he said was very stupid but it justifiably ended his career as a broadcaster. Jimmy had plenty of support as well from people who insisted he wasn’t a racist, including black former colleagues, but CBS would have none of it.
Jimmy later tried to sue CBS, claiming that his firing was discriminatory (irony!) due to his age, but lost.
Your wish is my command: Don Cherry on being fired for immigration comments | Fox News Video
According to Tucker, the people who were upset are Fascists who have no feelings and wanted to crush Don (like grapes, I assume?)
According to Don, it’s just Tranna and Mississauga that have changed in the past 38 years. Go to smaller cities and it’s just the same.
I wonder what it is that’s changed in Tranna and Mississauga that bothers Don so much?
I see from that Globe & Mail link that the money is on Brian Burke as Cherry’s replacement. Sounds pretty boring. Cherry is irreplaceable.
