Donald Trump says he is going to give an address on prime time tv on December 17, 2025. Are you going to watch to see what he says?

I realized what this reminded me of.

I don’t know if any of you have experienced this… You have some kind of get-together, like a party, or a reunion, a wedding reception, etc. An event with a bunch of adults and a few kids.

One of the kids, who is bored and wants attention, tells their parent they want to address people there, and thinking it’s cute, they acquiesce, expecting them to sing a song they learned at school, or recite something they learned. But the kid stares at everyone for a bit, getting the attention they wanted, but really doesn’t have anything prepared, and improvises by making fart noises before their parent pulls them away in embarrassment.

Trump is that little kid, except he runs the country and there is no parent to stop him.

No, it’s more clear, accurate, and to the point than all the namby-pamby euphemisms.

See how you interpreted the word “baseless”? The word LIE doesn’t need interpretation.

I watched some of this shit-show, and he sped-read through a lot of it, but when he went off-script, out came the invisible accordions. And when he misread or stumbled, it was very obvious as he tried to pivot it to make you think he didn’t misread or stumble. He has tells like no one else. I’d love to play poker against him. His tells are as obvious as the spray tan on his face.

I bet he plays poker the way he plays golf.

Exactly. He plays just like you would expect the two-time winner of Michigan Man of the Year would play.

That works out to $.85 per hour for one year, assuming a 40 hour work week.

They’ll be receiving it in two weeks.

Right after their DOGE check and their tariff dividend.

I didn’t watch it, of course, but from what I’m reading here it was completely pointless bloviations. Sounds like someone dared to tell him – or he discovered for himself – that his poll numbers are way down, so it’s time to remind everyone what an incredible, terrific, and perfect president he is, and how wonderful everything is now.

Trump 1.0 was a major embarrassment to America (remember about how injecting chlorine bleach might cure COVID?) but that was nothing compared to the demented fool running around now, surrounded by nothing but sycophants.

The problem with calling a statement a lie is that it requires the person making it to know that it’s untrue. In his case, I thought - before he was even nominated the first time - that he doesn’t know what he thinks to be true until he’s opened his mouth and heard what comes out of it.

Yes, I’m finding the reports here informative, and based on them, that it was pretty much, as you say, “pointless bloviations.” I was thinking it was going to be declaring war on Venezuela. As it was, it seemed to be just a rally speech that didn’t take place in an arena, where he repeats how great he is to an audience that appreciates hearing that. But this time, he gave a rally speech to the whole nation.

“Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing,” perhaps?

Again, my thanks to those here who did watch and listen for the rest of us.

I knew he wasn’t going to be peddling NFTs or trading cards or ugly gold sneakers, because then it would have been billed as “an extremely important announcement”.

The Orange Buffoon – never mentally stable to begin with – is really losing his marbles now. One way or another, I have doubts that he’ll make it to the end of his term. Spineless as Congress may be, impeachment or Article 25 appear to be in the offing, at least if the institutions of this nation are still sane.

He’ll do that by tweet.

The speech was reportedly 18 minutes long.

Too bad Rosemary Woods passed away years ago. Where’s an 18 minute gap when you need one?

I don’t think he’ll be able to play this card again. The next time the prez says he’ll address the nation, of course the networks will still switch to it, but the sane networks will be ready with the stop button if it looks like he’s just doing a rally speech. Heck, even the bananas networks don’t show his whole rally speeches, so they won’t want to cover it all either.

Fool me once, Trump’s a twat.
< end of aphorism >

I’ve heard it referred to as both the Pettysburg Address and the I Have a Scream speech.

Glad I missed it.

Seriously, unless there’s some major world event, this moron’s “presidential address” should be considered as nothing more than self-aggrandizing performance. If there is, in fact, some major world event, then God help us all.

I think the “Woahier bonus” for the military was the only new thing he said, and as others have pointed out, there’s a good chance that’s either bullshit or illegal, so we’ll see if it ever happens.

So, he started with a lie (“The economy I inherited was a mess”) and then lied all the way through? I’m shocked, shocked.

So after being one of the very few who said here that I wanted to watch the address, I ended up totally forgetting about it while watching streaming stuff with my wife. Probably for the best. Seems like I didn’t miss much of notice; just the usual lies and BS. But it does sound like he was even more whiny, defensive and in denial than usual.

“I inherited an economic mess from Biden and I’m fixing it”

I went looking for a review of the speech that didn’t involve the usual media sane-washing. Raw Story is always good for a hot take on these things. What do you call the opposite of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf"-- someone who keeps claiming everything is great, when it’s really not, and people just start completely disregarding them?

I planned to check here and in social media to keep an eye on any fresh insanities from the shitgibbon but ended up binge watching The Pitt with my wife.
After the fourth episode in a row we decide to quit for the night and go to sleep, and then we remembered the speech.
Me: “I wonder what that loco de mierda has said”
Ms. Baggins: “War on Venezuela probably”
Me: (Checking the SDMB) “Nope, just inane blathering”
Both: “Well, it could’ve been way worse”.
