Donald Trump, tax avoider

Trump 2020 campaign so far, illustrated:

In general, Trump seems to have taken 20% of the value of all his projects for unnamed consultants. In one or two cases, the same value taken off a project equals the amount given to Ivanka. But the other consultants are unnamed too. Most likely reliable and honest venture capitalists rather than more family members. Which is good if he is personally involved.

I went to the National Review looking to see how they would make pottery out of turds, as per usual. Make him sound like a Republican combination of Solon and the Gracchi Brothers. Mais - Mozusse. They did not mention it at all!

But Trump is personally securing millions of doses of Covid vaccine. That’s good to know, and I’ll sleep a bit easier.

Are you talking money or Ivanka?

It’s a crime. Look it up.

Maybe they weren’t. And maybe they’ll be really pissed off that Dad was sending so much money Ivanka’s way, and not a penny to them.

And so they’ll turn on him…

Well, we can dream, can’t we?

Long answer short, I think the bar for President if the United States should be set higher than “not technically illegal”. Way higher, when it comes to taxes, that one civic responsibility that everyone hates.

I actually expect the President of the United States to be accountable to a higher standard than the rest of us, not a lower one.

The fact this even needs to be said is unbelievable. :expressionless:

No, ordinary people cant, but show biz people can if they can show that is not their usual hair , they do it like that for business.

Did you read the NYT piece? It looks like he broke a fuck ton of laws.

If you didn’t read the articles, you don’t have a take on them. Fullstop.

We strive for the straight dope here on the Straight Dope.

He hasn’t read the articles just like he won’t read any of the responses to him.

I think Kamala Harris has the right approach (scroll down to video).

Why is Donald spending any money on consultants? I thought he already knew everything.

We are in a weird world where Trump is relying on the general public’s financial illiteracy to make the story go away and the Biden camp…is relying on the generals public’s financial illiteracy to make the story stick. :flushed:

This thread makes it seem the latter is succeeding and a quick glance at r/conservative on Reddit makes it clear the former is succeeding as well.

If Trump (or let’s say a hypothetical person called “Drumpf”) personally owes a mountain of debt to entities then not having any significant personal assets is the smartest thing he can do. @Chronos funny jab notwithstanding, having less worth than uncontacted Llma herdsman is smart move. Since that makes suing to recover from you
functionally impossible.
I would love to see details of the “personal guarantee” he has supposed to have signed.
If he has no personally owned and saleable assets that can match that amount then those banks are fucked. And he would be stupid not to remove as much from himself as possible.
Guessing it’s a boring old directors personal guarantee.

Let’s call the whole thing off.

To be more accurate, it needs to be a Russian plane.

Stay classy, man.

It’s much easier to maintain one’s worldview if one avoids everything that may contradict it.

States most certainly can determine rules for ballot listing eligibility.

Oh, there’s a vaccine?

Shots of hydroxychloroquine, grain alcohol and rainwater.

Repeated, for emphasis.

Oh snap!
