Donald Trump's 2016 General Election Campaign

I am a Jew FWIW and not in a tizzy but calling a Star of David a Star of David.

Now if it had little round balls on the tips and the context was some Western theme advertising Clinton as representing law and order with her wearing a cowboy hat then maybe the sheriff allusion would be viable. But seriously, in this context … uh no.

Look, I actually do not think that Trump is explicitly anti-Semitic, even if he hires some and panders to many. He has a Jewish daughter for Moishe’s sake. He holds some stereotypes to be factual and is an ignorant doofus but would be clueless about things like (((Ivanka Trump))) to the point of possibly even re-tweeting it as saying something good.

Not a major thing.

But there is zero question that whoever put that up meant the dogwhistle. Was no one watching what that relative foot soldier was doing until it went out or was it intended at higher levels? Don’t know and again, down quickly, so minor enough it isn’t worth much outrage. But be real. No question what the meaning was.

Dang if he posted a swastika would you post the pictures of the ancient Hindu swastika and say that not all swastikas are Nazi allusions? It’s just a shape!

Not usually.

Who would volunteer to be associated with the Trump campaign? Don’t look at the paid flacks, look at the people who actually do crap on a daily basis, like running a Twitter feed and using Photoshop to make the images they want to go viral. What kind of people are those? Trump supporters. Who are Trump supporters? People who are so angry with and disaffected from normal politics that they’d back Donald Fucking Trump.

Now, what ideology has been festering in that fringe for decades? What can you not go three links deep into a conspiracy theory webpage before finding traces of? What is constantly just there, within the immediate or extended social circle of any alt-right or alt-left movement except those explicitly run by and for Jews? Antisemitism. It never went away; it’s there in the 9/11 Truth Movement, the Big Pharma Truth Movement, the End The Fed Movement, Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Malheur.

Conspiracy Theories are the bedtime stories the disaffected use to keep themselves warm at night, to tell themselves that what they’re doing really matters and that their lives aren’t a complete waste. Every story needs a villain, and the Jews have been a very convenient villain for a very long time.

When I do a google search on the Star of David, nothing on the first 5 pages of images turns up a completely filled in star like that. They ALL show the outline of each overlapped triangle. Sometimes a star is just a star.

Funny, my Google search comes up with this in the first five images.

I hate to break it to you but that image does indeed show the outlines of the two triangles so I am at a loss as to what is “funny” about that.

If it wasn’t intentional, then why change it? Either Trump or one of his people messed up. Either way, it speaks volumes about a man who doesn’t pay attention to the details. This, along with his anti-Semitic and anti-Mexican remarks, and the rape allegations, and just about everything else that comes out of his mouth reflect a man not fit for public office, let alone the persistency of the USA, arguably the most powerful job in the world.

This poster star thing is either evil and anti-Semitic, or inattentive and stupid.

Considering the Trump campaign in general, it COULD be all four.

But none of the four are qualities I would like to see in my President.

I don’t think I’ve ever +1ed before but dang, well said. +1.

If that is the case then I am sure you can find many many cases of those stars just used as a neutral shape in other political campaign propaganda in many campaigns. No? Only this one over a background of money? Huh.

Sometimes a dog whistle is just a dog whistle.

Yet again, not a big thing, not at all a surprising thing, bigger items to deal with, but pretending it aint what it was is just silly.

You said completely filled in. It’s completely filled in.

Weird. I get several filled in blue ones.

Try this for the Star worn by Jews in Bulgaria/Poland/Hungary/Greece/Lithuania/Latvia, and the slightly different one worn by Jews in Romania.

Now that does raise an eyebrow; still, it could be plausible explained away if this was only one incident, but Trump is the same guy that has tweeted charts and text from European and American Neo-Nazis not so long ago.

And an image of Nazi troops.

That is just weird. It’s too subtle to be effective signalling to fellow Neo-Nazis or a very satisfying troll, but… why would they use that image in the first place? How did they even find it? Incompetence is usually laziness, but this looks like it would have taken more effort to pull off than just grabbing a few images from the Army’s website.

The Star of David tweet is pretty well explained by Antisemites working as Trump interns, but this seems like it would be too subtle to be explained that way. Maybe I’m wrong.

You don’t have to worry about subtlety from a campaign so enthusiastically endorsed by the Klan.

Khare’s process sounds something like the Massachusetts procedure: First, you take a five-hour course (generally taught by an NRA-accredited instructor) in gun laws, safe handling, how the damned things work, etc. No live fire training required, though some instructors do include it (mine didn’t). Then you file an application with your local police department, including the course certification. The state/feds run a background check. If you pass, the local chief has the discretion to say go/no go (and how difficult it is varies town to town). Assuming you get the green light, you’re issued your CC and can then go buy any weapon that’s legal to own in the state – even if you’ve never actually done any live fire training.

Yes, I agree issuing a license to anyone who hasn’t been taught hands-on is stupid. In my case, I’d handled a gun maybe twice in my life before getting permitted (at age 62), so, being not-stupid, after buying my first gun* I hired my certification instructor for a couple of live fire training sessions.

And have seen some boneheaded stuff at the range you wouldn’t believe.
*Why? Satisfying a lifelong curiosity and amusing myself at the range. That’s all.

And I should not had been surprised that the sources Trump uses are still made up of neo fascist or white supremacist antisemitic ones.

And I forgot to mention before, Trump AFAIK never explained or apologized for those early fascist sourced memes that he re tweeted.

Show me your sources and I’ll tell you who you are.

So uh CarnalK and anyone else who tried to say that it was just an innocent star, nothing to do with its widely accepted symbol for Jewish, does the fact that the graphic was copped (possibly directly) from a neo-Nazi messageboard alter your assessment at all?

Well sure. If it was being passed around on neo nazi sites they would have recognized that “dogwhistle” if you can say a neo nazi feel the need to dog whistle at all. Will any of the pro-dog whistler people admit it was not an intentional one by the Trump campaign? It’s not like he immediately deleted then served up an edited version of his black on white homicides tweet.
