Trump has retweeted stuff from white supremacist sources. He has not personally said anything that would constitute ascribing him the position of being a white supremacist.
Trump is happy to whistle to the racists, but he himself is an equal opportunity thief. He’ll steal from anyone.
Repeating and re-using white supremacist/neo-nazi images, posts, tweets, etc.; insisting that a judge can’t do his job properly because he’s Mexican; saying that Mexican immigrants are rapists; his years of birther conspiracy mongering; and more.
Also, there’s no legitimate comparison between Jeremiah Wright and David Duke. Wright has made anti-Semitic statements, but unlike Duke, he apologized for them and recanted them. He’s far from perfect, but not even close to the level of hate that Duke has spewed for decades.
I agree that’s closer to a ‘least squares error’ midpoint of Trump support than imagined white guy outside or on the edge of the workforce with little or no skill that’s still marketable. There just aren’t nearly enough people like that to win even the primaries, even against a divided field, much less make up a significant portion of 40%+ of the general electorate supporting Trump over Clinton. But by same token 40%+ of the electorate isn’t largely covered by any single description.
On the racial aspect it may be a good mobilizer for Democrats to keep claiming Trump is a white supremacist, or that’s where his support comes from to any significant degree, but this is not very plausible IMO outside campaign spin mode. Trump is the white Al Sharpton basically, not the second coming of Hitler or even the umpteenth return of the KKK to prominence. Trump does seem to play footsie with alt-right sh*tbags. That’s one on a fairly extensive list of things which disqualify him from my POV. And the GOP has nominated him for Pres: shame on them IMO. Democrats never did Sharpton, good for them; though OTOH they now treat him as fully legitimate, invite him to the WH etc. a guy whose irresponsible race baiting has literally gotten people killed, back to shameful. But these are self promoting people doing/saying whatever to promote themselves, it’s what they do. It’s very possible to exaggerate the actual ill will of people like that, and moreover of their followers.
I mentioned this in the other thread a few hours back, and it’s since gotten me to wondering: if he was pissed off before, is Chris Christie now going nuts?
Being President is hard work. Running for President is probably more work than Donald’s done in years - and he’s barely even showing up for that.
I have no doubt that Donald assumes his VP will run everything just like the VPs at his corporation, while Donald jets around and tags his name on stuff.
He’s had a tough couple of weeks, but he’s totally cool with it! Saw him last night, him and Il Douche are the bestest buddies ever and he’s looking forward to working on the Transition Team. Couldn’t be happier, bubbling over with enthusiasm.
Ha, good call. Although apparently, back in the '70s at least, Donald (#whinylittlebitch) really was a hands-on guy, constantly going around to make sure contractors were on task and so on. Although he did delegate a fair bit of that to Ivana, come to think of it…
“Radical” how? Huey Newton radical? Nation of Islam radical? MLK radical? Did you see pictures of his congregation? Look like seething revolutionaries to you? Or just a bunch of folks dressed up for church?
Those are the words he recanted. He’s a nut, but if you think being a nut who sometimes disagrees with Zionism and once said something antisemitic that he then recanted is comparable to leading the KKK, then I think your criteria is way out of whack.
I’ve had the same thought except that Donald will just hold rallies all the time so the American people can show him how much they love him. Maybe have a rally in each state, one a week, with two weeks off to celebrate that national holiday when it’s required that everyone say “Merry Christmas!”.
