Donald Trump's 2016 General Election Campaign

Big, big fan of Josh and his Talking Points Memo, but…

This is a classic example of what happens when a reasonable person views an insane situation, we simply cannot help but try to extract a rational explanation.

Perhaps they are looking to put forth two utterly incompatible viewpoints at the same time, thus appealing to two different sets of people with radically opposing views? When talking to Latinos, they point to statement A. When talking to rabid nativists, they point to statement B.

Is that nuts? Yeah. So?

I also assumed this, but the person who doesn’t know how to post links would rather get defensive than simply say “My bad.”

  1. Trump is bored. Campaign stops are HARD, and eventually all that cheering is going to start sounding the same, and he has to say the exact same thing over and over again. Trump is used to saying a thing and then that thing gets done. I would guarantee there’s a part of him that has “I don’t ever have to repeat myself to get something done” as a point of pride.

Man, for a billionaire, a few odd hundred-thousand dollars here and there should be chump change. Why even go to the effort? Unless, of course, Trump isn’t nearly as rich as he claims to be, and actually needs all that money he’s kicking back to himself.

Say, Don, where were those tax returns of yours again…? :dubious:

You know a thing most people don’t find difficult, but is very annoying when you don’t do it?

Rich people didn’t get rich by turning down free money. I KNOW Trump didn’t get rich by himself, but it’s probably a truism his Daddy beat into him as a boy.

Trump demands a special prosecutor for the Clinton Foundation.

I already started a thread about that some time ago seeking clarification about the Tapatalk sig. Unlike the person in this thread, I was prepared to change my habits if it was a big deal (even though the sig doesn’t cause people to directly financially support loathsome entities) and for the most part it wasn’t so I didn’t.

But thanks for your concerns. Feel free to revive the thread if you would like to comment further.

And I thought I was joking when I posted this in another thread…

Let’s stipulate, despite lack of evidence, that his goal is to win the election. Not to get up to 250 electoral votes or so and say “I didn’t do too bad,” but to get the full 269 evs and take home the brass ring.

The states you mention are not enough to get to 269 evs, even with North Carolina thrown in. He’ll need one more state: PA, VA or NH. There’s no way he can get 269 ev’s without one of those three states (or a long-shot like CO or WI).

Among the three, Pennsylvania is most likely to vote Trump. Its huge 20 evs mean that if Trump gets it, the small swing states like NV, IA become irrelevant.

This Presidential election, if not a landslide, will be decided in Pennsylvania. Anyone not campaigning vigorously there doesn’t want to win.

I agree.

Current RCP poll average for Pennsylvania: Clinton + 9.2

Last 3 polls:
NBC/WSJ/Marist Clinton +11
Quinnipiac 7/30 Clinton +10
Susquehanna Clinton +10

He posted his links just fine. If you hover over the link, it is very clear where it goes. All you have to do is read it. You do hover over links and read them before you click them, I’ll assume, since you’re so worried about where they’ll take you. Otherwise, I can’t imagine why you’re getting bent out of shape.

I already explained why. If there is a URL I’m not really sure why the obligation is on me to hover when someone could simply post the correct URL.

On a board where you will get scolded by moderation for changing a word or two in quoted posts even when it’s obviously changed for humor or whatever, it would be consistent to request people not post deceptive links.

I am done with this. I made a simple request and explained why I felt it was appropriate. If anyone wishes to start a pit thread about it, I’ll be happy to elaborate further using language appropriate for that forum.

But people embed links into their posts all the time here which requires a mouse over and you can’t possibly expect that to stop.

Any chance we could take the links discussion either to the pit, or preferably out behind the barn with a shotgun? But somewhere else?

Or maybe just that I don’t think I did anything wrong so don’t see a need to say “My bad.”
But I agree with Finangle that this is taking up valuable band-width which could be better spent fantasising about Melania Trump’s pre-Donald days, so I’m done.

Thank you for the best mental image of this entire campaign.

Why Penna. and not Ohio?

Oh yes, I didn’t mean to say that I thought TPM was right necessarily, into why Donald was cancelling his appearances atm, merely that it was a suggestion that they had put forward.

It’s true enough that Donald’s various assertions are incoherent.

Latest Trump Tweet:

Wait, what? If the pile on is the worst, then how can it be that EVERYone is reporting this? It makes no sense. If the media is against you, how come “virtually everyone” is reporting on it?

Trump’s brain is a fascinating thing.

I’m confused - if the media is rigging the election, why are they reporting on the fact that they’re rigging the election?
