I honestly don’t think he has the temperament to be able to study for hours and memorize responses. His strength has been in reading a room and responding in ways that hit the chords emotionally. That does not work as well in this format. His best efforts at preparation would have had him ready for a few expected questions, and will have him doing less poorly than he did last night, but not by much.
He stayed away from being overtly racist/misogynisitic. That was his job one. He repeated his catch phrases. Job two. He failed at looking presidential. He might just practice that.
Looks like Trump is brewing himself up a Miss Universe controversy. This CNN clip from this morning is pretty brutal - Don just trashes that poor woman to a disbelieving audience.
Probably not. He bombed because of his personality, not due to a fixable flaw in his strategy. The only difference I see is that, since the next debate will be a town hall format, he might verbally abuse “civilians,” i.e. non pols or journalists, who ask him questions that he doesn’t want to answer and/or make disparaging comments about them during post debate interviews.
I agree that Trump is the most vulnerable at the second debate town hall. The commission clearly selected Wallace for the final debate to maximize the chances of him attending all three, but there’s nothing stopping him from skipping the second one. I really hope he doesn’t realize that risk and skip the second debate. Then again, this is the guy who just doubled down on calling Ms. Machado fat, so I don’t think he’s thinking very far ahead.
The old Donald is back! Hillary brings up something stupid he did 20 years ago, and he gets on the phone so he can repeat it. A completely unforced error.
I know! I was hoping that Trump’s poor debate performance was going to have a snowball effect and so far I am not disappointed. Let’s hope he keeps it up.
This time, Donald thought he had it in the bag, which is why he could be patronizing about wanting her to be happy and saying that he would support her. Next time? No more Mr. “Nice” Guy.

It makes another point that is being overlooked in the discussion: The video claims that Miss Universe is supposed to be paid 10% of the money that they take in for doing commercials. She says she was never paid.
Gotta remember, some folks are very uninformed when it comes to drugs. Some of them think “drugs” is something you go to Maine for and buy from Swifty. And anything that comes by way of a prescription isn’t “drugs” but “medicine”. With Trump, its hard to tell if he is poorly informed, or just hopes that we are.
